Hi all,

My PR application is in process (AOR August 20th 2020), and I had applied for a Bridging Open Work Permit (My current permit was expiring on 7th April 2021), which was approved on 23rd March and received the physical permit today. I am planning to travel to India in Mid-April for about 2 months.

My question is: The work visa TRV in my passport expired last year, but I also have a visitor visa TRV in my passport which is valid till 2026. Would I have any problem coming back into Canada? I had actually travelled to India in August 2020 and came back into Canada in December 2020 in the same situation but they let me in, after some to and from discussion between the airlines and the immigrations in Canada. Is it safe to apply for a new work TRV or would my visit visa TRV be fine like last time? Just a bit anxious with all these restrictions. Would really appreciate any advice. Thanks! :)

Hi, yes, I went in April and came back in August. There were no issues, as they just need any TRV and my visitor visa was valid. I just had to show my valid work permit (original) and my visitor visa, that's it. Let me know if you need any other info. Thanks.

@rajpotula Thanks for the info. In my case, I don’t have any TRV but have only physical copy of BWP extension. I need to travel due to some emergency today. Can I come back with the document without valid visa ?

Oh, then no, you will definitely need a visa to come back. You can try to apply for a TRV from within Canada before you leave, should be quick as your work permit is already approved. If not, then you will have to apply from India fort he trv.

@rajpotula I had applied visitor visa as returner worker yesterday but I need to come back by January 02 2022 which is my expiry of extension BOWP. Do you have any idea if my visitor visa will approve ? If approved can it be in December ?
If not I had visitor visa to USA. Can I travel to USA from India and can I cross border using the document ?

But if they approve your PR then your TD is not valid anymore and should apply from outside. Or hopefully, you receive your PR before leaving. I have the same problem, I for my ticket, and they approved my application for PR, now I have to wait for the PR card to mail to me.
