Hi,

I have a PGWP. I studied computer science at university (in Canada), then got a job as a software developer in Canada. I got laid off after 3 months. I have 9 more months of work to do before I can apply for PR (under Canadian Experience Class (CEC)).

I am still unemployed and looking for work. I have been struggling to get a job in my field (software) and have been searching for jobs like admin assistant that counts towards work experience - NOC B.

By the time I fulfill my work experience requirement, I'm pretty sure TEER will come into effect and NOC will be gone.

So, now I am confused if under TEER the work experience needs to be the same as my degree? If I say get a job in the NOC B field, what if that doesn't count towards my work experience for PR under CEC?
I have read here that about 47 NOC B jobs will be downgraded:

(https://www.immigrationxperts.com/updates/upcoming-changes-to-express-entry-new-noc-codes/#:~:text=There will be a downgrading, and as Federal Skilled Workers.&text=Replaces the current four-digit,fresh new five-digit system.)

Is there any way for me to check now, that what sort of jobs will count towards work experience for CEC under TEER?

Any idea, how I should go about my job hunting, in this case, so I don't choose a job that won't be counted towards my work experience?

Unfortunately there is no way for you to check now which jobs will count towards work experience under CEC. This information hasn't been made public.

The best thing you can do is to try to stay away from the 47 NOC B jobs on the list and to try to find a job that is directly linked to your education.

This is an open secret that TEER 0,1&2 will be towards CEC rest not eligible. Wait till they announce.

It seems the government was trying to invite people that can fill up labour shortage, i don't think it will be based on TEER number anymore. This is solely based on my speculation. Wait until annoucement.

You mean there will be draws only for certain occupation?
Could you elaborate with an example?

It hasn’t been announced but the government has indicated that draws may focus on specific, in-demand NOCs to fill skills shortages rather than general draws. This may be for FSW draws and not CEC draws, but no one knows. Sort of like what the provinces do now. Everything is speculation.

Yes, that's what I mean. the system will be looked like PNP or Australian immigration system. If the government has to change from NOC to TEER level solely based on NOC/TEER level, that means the system is somewhat similar.

here's the proposal that has been made publicly https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2021/05/minister-mendicino-highlights-immigration-investments-in-budget-2021-in-support-of-canadas-economic-recovery.html

you can see the sentence "better tap candidates that meet Canada’s labour market needs from among the pool of candidates who wish to become permanent residents through the Express Entry system"
