It's nice to have the option to live and work in other countries without necessarily having to move there permanently. Afterall, people move to Canada for better work opportunities amd if they can find opportunities elsewhere without too much effort and have Canada as home to fallback to, I think it's great.

Exactly. I hated being in the US out of fear of losing my job and being deported. I'm sure it would have been much better if I just had to move a few hours north instead of to my trash home country.

Careful with the terminology. People here like to cherry pick one thing to invalidate everything else. H1B is an immigrant visa, while L1 is non-immigrant but dual intent. TN is non-immigrant and applying for a GC on TN jeopardizes you TN status and will be used against you in future visa applications to the US.

But I was careful with terminology. I don’t think I said H1B is not an immigrant visa, I said it’s a temporary visa. I doesn’t automatically become a greencard and you don’t need it for greencard. It will expire so you need to constantly renew it, so a temporary visa. If something goes wrong while you are on it, then you are screwed. For example, Trump’s first term plan was to slow consulates to waste family based greencards and in his second term he planned to delay H1B renewals for so long, the person would have to self deport. That’s how he planned on cutting legal immigration without congress.

As far as I know you can't constantly renew H1B, but only once. So you get an initial 3 years on it, then you (your employer) renew it once and get another 3 years and that's it. You know, no need for an FSW equivalent in the US, if US made a simple modification to H1B and allowed unlimited renewals, I wouldn't be surprised to see a drop by about 50% in EE applications lol.

I think US EB would be fine if they simply allowed you to adjust after a few years and not require to be with your sponsor. Then you can have an open work permit. I know that’s to make it so you don’t abandon the company that sponsors you, but 5 years should be enough, it shouldn’t give them lifetime servitude.

shit weather yes but why didn't consider the England long ago? we are safe here. I'd say even the illegal immigrants are safer here than they are in their own countries. And london is the most shittiest. the countryside english grasslands will make folks feel home and far away from the world problems.

You can, but not every company is willing to sponsor you. It’s like going on a date and dropping a huge baggage in the first date. Either they want to take advantage of you or they leave.

Their system is decades old, it’s outdated and almost impossible to change, because too many people has their opinion on it. So whenever a new bill comes up, everyone wants a piece and when you see the final drafts, it becomes an impassable shitstorm.

In USA, politics is entrenched with entertainment it seems. People enjoy being political. So every god damned thing is too political to be touched and immigration is one of the hottest one. Their elections are like an episode out of 24 or something. There is election in Canada too... its boring. I mean this election was the most exciting one in decades IMHO but it does not even hold a candle to even the least controversial election in the USA. This is why Canada can still make some kind of decisions about their immigration.
