When to land and soft landing

Dear Legal Falcon and members of the community,

My family and I who are DEC 2019 AOR, received re-medicals request on the 13th of October. We are Indians residing in the UAE. My GCMS notes from July 2020 showed Eligibility as passed and this re-medicals request is the first positive sign since then.

We booked an appointment for next week and hopefully if all goes well, we expect our PPR in November and our COPR’s soon after that.

After waiting for 2 years, this has suddenly come and we are not sure how to deal with this situation. My children are in school and my daughter is in her last year and so next year she will need to start University in Canada. She will need to apply by February or May for the September intake and we are unable to decide whether to do our landing in December during this winter break or if there is some option with the university whereby we can land after their academic year ends in 1st week of July 2022 and still apply earlier as a PR (from overseas) if we have a COPR in hand.

My dilemma is that without landing I guess we cannot apply as a PR and she will have to apply as an international student but then next year we will land for sure. What do you advise please? If we have to do a forceful landing in December which is the only time I can see because of the break available, then we have to sacrifice our goods to follow list and wrap up a lot of things quickly which makes it very difficult. My main concern is how to deal with the University application if we don’t land before the application deadline and second is that if we do land in December on a 2 week break and return to the UAE, does it mean that the only thing we are at a disadvantage will be that the goods we plan to bring to Canada by cargo at a later stage, we will need to pay 5% customs duty on it? Is there anything else to be concerned about?

The other thing is that it is allowed now to land in Canada, wait for our PR cards (I guess it takes about 2 weeks) and return to current country of residence for 6 months and then return back after 6-7 months when the academic year ends?

Also, since we will get our PR cards, my daughter can apply to a University in Canada as a PR rather than an International student?

Appreciate all the advice I can get, thank you in advance and hoping and praying for all of you to get some good news sooner than later.

Dear kimtaeyung, I have been waiting for a decision since December 2018. My GCMS notes also says Eligibility passed. I have received remedical requests from IRCC twice, 1st in Feb 2020, then in May 2021. The dismal way IRCC is processing EE applications, I don't think a remedical request guarantees PPR mail is coming soon! I sincerely hope that you don't have to go through the anguish of waiting through several remedical requests. Since, it is your daughter's future you're talking about, my advice is to separate your planning for immigration and her admission.

Dear Tanvir, I appreciate you being straight forward and thank you for your reply. Actually I am feeling positive that not only myself but others also will be receiving their PPR's soon. I follow a lot of immigration channels and I have seen the trickle has started and people are getting re-medical requests followed by their PPR's. Anyways, as you said, I need to be realistic and therefore I am investigating in advance what my options may be. So n case we do not get our PPR as I think we would by this November end, then there will be no window to travel to Canada before July next year in which case she will apply as an international student when the time comes.
I really hope and pray that all of us including yourself, myself and the 10's of thousands of people in anguish checking their emails and GC key account twice and thrice a day and put their lives on hold will soon see a ray of light. This cannot go on any longer and I am just very confident that all the backlogs are being cleared and will be in the next couple of months. Best of Luck to all of us!

Dear Tanvir,

As I mentioned 2 weeks back that I was felling hopeful and expected the PPR soon, it finally happened. We got our RFV mail yesterday which is 6 days after the medicals got updated. It looks like all others will be getting their PPR's soon. It seems that IRCC is requesting medicals to be redone for all those that medicals are expired or have only few months remaining and since the entry to Canada has to be within the timeline that is related to the medicals, applicants are getting their re-medicals request and IRCC is immediately finalizing them. Best of Luck to all.

Glad to know that you received PPR mail! I got request for 2nd remedical in May 2021, which i duly performed and passed. Let's see what happens before it expires. Wish you best of luck in your future endeavours !
