Hello Everyone,

I am going to apply for my sister's visitor visa first time. I need some help and have some questions if experts and forum member can help, I would greatly appreciate your suggestions -

1. My Sister is 45 age and unemployed, she is living with her husband and Son in India, So being unemployed make her case week for visitor visa ?
2. For Financial proof, if she shows just bank summary copy with total fund, will that work OR does she need to show 3 month bank statement ?
3. I will be filling out forms and gathering all documents for my Sister, Do I need to fill out representative form on her behalf ?
4. Can Christmas and new year time (1 week) be considered a good reason for visiting Canada ( showing this reason in invitation letter) ?

She also has property on her name, along with some stocks, mutual funds and other investments. If there is anything else we need to include to strengthen her application ??

Thank you so much everyone.

Best,

1. Yes, it makes it weaker if she's unemployed. However if she is traveling alone (without her son and husband), that will make her application stronger. The same will apply if she has previous travel to countries requiring visas such as the US or UK.
2. She can just show the summary copy.
3. I don't believe so. But let someone else comment on that.
4. Christmas is a good reason. One week is really short visit for such a long trip.

Definitely include the property documents and investments. As said above, if she has previous travel to countries such as the US or UK, show that as well.

Hi Scylla,

Thank you kindly for your inputs, greatly appreciate.

You mentioned point of previous travel to other countries, actually my sister has never travelled outside India anytime, which kind of makes me nervous considering she is unemployed as well.

Also, when we put up application, is it better to apply for 2-3 weeks visit only at first time ?

Thanks again,

Best,

Yes, I would stick with 2-3 weeks.

Unfortunately there's not much you can do for the fact that she hasn't previously traveled and is unemployed.

Hopefully the fact that her husband and child are staying back will be enough of a tie.

Good luck.

If other knowledgeable forum members can share their views, that would be very helpful.
Advice given above is very good. Include vaccination proof. She needs to apply and see what happens. Having her spouse and son stay home is the strongest part of her profile.

For proof of funds you can show amount in bank saving account, FD etc. funds that can be liquidated easily. Also you have to show the funds to prove that you can take care of her financially (food, travel, medical, insurance) during her stay in Canada. You have to mention that in your invitation letter.

IRCC really wants to see that the sister and her husband have the liquid funds to take care of any travel costs. You can also provide proof of your own funds but that is considered secondary. People can say that they will take care of all the expenses but there are no legal ways to enforce this and there have been many cases where a relative changes their mind after an argument leaving the visitor without funds to support themselves in Canada. This is one of the reasons IRCC normally wants to see that the visitor has their own liquid funds. There can be some flexibility when it comes to parents but not so much for siblings. Also depends on the reason for her visit. Since she has never travelled internationally before why is she traveling now. Her vaccination status and whether she will need to quarantine should also be included in your invitation and itinerary.

Dear Canuck78,

Thank you for your explanation and information. You mentioned about reason for travel. Actually we purchased new house this summer and this is going to be our first Christmas in new house, We are thinking of putting reason for Christmas visit along with new year as my parents are also here right now, so we will have small gathering, So Can Christmas and new year visit be good reason perhaps requesting for 2-3 weeks time only ? ...Do you think never been travelled outside home country before can really make visitor visa case week ?

My Sister and her husband are going to show around $ 30,000 liquid funds along with some other shares, stocks, mutual funds and investment on name of my sister and a property as well. I really hoping this should be enough fund for 2-3 weeks visit.

Can you please also advise if I need to fill out representative form as I will be preparing entire application and filling forms on her behalf ?

Thank you very much
