Family vs Single

Hello Everyone,
My wife and kid came to Canada after me. So I applied for citizenship on June (already got my AOR), but had to wait for my wife and kid till October. So now I can apply for them.So there are few questions that would like to get answers:
1- Can my wife and kid apply separately? Or does my wife have to apply family application with my kid?
2- Do I have to change my application to family
3- CAn we do something like this. My wife applies alone single (So we can use Online tool), and after one of us gets citizenship we apply for kid

What would you recommend?

Thanks for the answer. So if my wife decides to apply with kids:
- We will collect the necessary documents for her. And fill the forms
- We will collect the necessary documents for the kid and fill the form
- Put them together into same envelope and send
Am I right?
