Hey there,

I am on closed work permit and applied for my spousal open work permit and visitor visa for my kid on May, which seems like would take time. Is it okay to apply visitor visa for both as per the Sep 7th announcement?

Any lead? Appreciate your help, thanks in advance!

You can try but you’ll need to show that your spouse has strong ties to their home country and doesn’t plan on remaining in Canada longterm. OWP is the proper application for a spouse wanting to relocate to Canada.

Thank you! Am on closed work permit, not on PR. So it's okay right? Or am I getting it wrong meaning is sowp is still required?!

Your spouse wouldn’t qualify for an OWP from outside Canada if you were a PR. OWP is referred to as an SOWP when it comes to spouses but is actually just an OWP.

@canuck78 I'm an OWP holder in Canada and had applied for SOWP last month. Since it's probably going to take a long time to get approved, I'm considering applying for visitor visa for her according to the new guidelines from IRCC.
How can I prove that she ll return to her home country if she doesn't work there?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Pretty tough that she is a temporary visitor if not working. You should certainly try but you’re applying for the correct permit for your spouse. When does your PGWP expire?

Yeah, that's what I was wondering... it's difficult to prove since she doesn't work right now.
My work permit is valid until Nov 2022.
