Hi fellow aspiring Canadian PR applicants,

As the title says, I am looking for the list of documents that I can provide to IRCC to prove my relationship to my wife who lives in another country. I live in the US since 2019 and my wife lives in Japan. She is a national of a Central Asian country and I am a national of a South Asian country. We have met in Japan while we were students there. We have been in a relationship even though I moved to the US. Last week, I went to Japan and we got married there. Nowadays, IRCC is rejecting a lot of spousal applications because of likely fraud. I am afraid that they may assume the same because we are living in different countries before and after marriage.

If someone was in a similar position, could you please share what documents you provided? I want to make my evidence as strong as possible. FYI, I am the principal FWS-Outland EE applicant and I have not received my PPR yet. I want to add her to my application so that she can get PPR with me.

So you just got married, and you are trying to add her in your application.

It seems, you have already submitted your PR application and waiting for the final outcome?

Yes, exactly. Now I need to submit documents to IRCC to add her to my application. I am seeking the checklist of documents for couples who got married in a third country and perhaps did Nikah via Zoom during Covid-19. Is it imperative for me to prove this is an authentic marriage by providing as many supporting documents as possible? Or I should submit the required list only and submit additional documents only when requested by IRCC?

I just sharing my experience here....

How I usually do is

Submit a webform with Marriage Certificate, Spouse Passport and Spouse Photo.
In webform, mention that your status changed to Married now.

Then IRCC will send you an application package, which will have further document requirements.

Be informed, You will need photos before marriage, During marriage like stage photos with families and every ritual.

here is the email which IRCC generally sends for adding spouse. Here under LOE, usually applicants add their photos in an order to prove that its an actual marriage and both parties know each other. Even family member's photos are added...

Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Congratulations on your wedding!

If you are the principal applicant of a permanent residence application already in process, you could add your spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, and their dependent children to your application, even if they were listed as a non-accompanying dependant in the initial application.

To do so, we invite you to send your add-on request through the IRCC webform available on our website. You can attach the following forms and documents in the field reserved to that effect:

Useful tips

  • If you need information to fill out the forms, please consult the Fill out the forms section of the instruction guide found in the application kit that you have initially used to apply.
  • If the newly eligible family member is a spouse, common-law partner or dependent child who is already a permanent resident or Canadian citizen, only a copy of the birth certificate, marriage certificate or proof of common-law relationship and a letter of explanation are required.
  • It may be impossible to add a member of your family to the application if a final decision has already been made.
We hope you will find this information helpful.

Your add-on request will be evaluated by the responsible office. You will be contacted when a decision will be made or if further information is required
