There's a handful of occasions that I visited the US twice in one day--pick up the mail in the morning, and then go back later in the evening for dinner.

In the absences portion of the physical presence calculator, do I add two entries of the same day, or do I just add one and note that there were two separate trips? Would it be worth adding an explanatory document just making it clear? Does it matter--or is it super important and trips up the process for some folks?

B. WHAT ABSENCES TO DECLARE
Q7: Do I have to declare day trips to the United States?

A7:
Yes. List all absences, even if you come back the same day.

Q8: I travel often to the United States and don't remember the exact dates. What do I do?

A8:
To use the physical presence calculator, you must enter exact dates. Check your passport and other records like: banking records, travel itineraries and receipts to help you determine your dates of travel.

Q9: I travel often because of my work (truck driver, employee for an airline company, etc.). Do I have to declare those absences?

A9:
Yes. All absences from Canada, regardless of the reason, must be declared.

Q10: Do I need to declare absences prior to becoming a permanent resident?

A10:
Yes, all absences from Canada during your eligibility period, the five (5) years preceding the date of your application, must be declared. Therefore your absences during your time as a temporary resident or protected person within the eligibility period must be declared as well.

Thanks, appreciate fast response. Follow-up question/clarification - I get that all absences, even same day ones, need to be captured. The question I have though, is, if there's two separate same-day trips to the US, are those two entries, or just one entry in the physical presence calculator?

If the calculator allows so, the safest route is probably to list every absence from Canada separately, and in the description for each to say that you had 2 trips in the same day, as this will match your records more accurately.

But it probably doesn't matter much : you're just presenting the same information in different ways, to an agent who will manually compare that to the CBSA entry exit report. And that information has no effect on your number of days.

Many people routinely get their citizenship with no hiccups after forgetting an actual exit (provided that the days buffer is safe). This, in comparison, is probably nothing...

As for a separate explanation letter : it's probably overkill. It's a common enough situation that is quickly clarified in the calculator directly.

This is awesome, thanks so much for this. Makes sense to just add two entries and call it out now that I hear it from someone else. Definitely makes me feel a bit more confident to kick this out soon.
