some one I know intends on filing for divorce just days before applying for citizenship. The feeling is mutual and we don’t want anything from one another so there is no need for friction or lawyers before applying. Does a change in marital status effect the legitimacy of my status and could lead to triggering something like a lite/full RQ (residency questionnaire)?

No, I don't think so. Divorce shouldn't affect your PR status or your citizenship application.

No. For citizenship, IRCC is more concerned about what you have declared and what is the current status at later stages of the application processing.

If and when your divorce goes through, you can always write to IRCC and update your marital status with them.
