Hi, I will be applying for a work permit. My children are 18 anf 16 yr old.

1. If I get the permit, can my children ( and spouse) accompany me or do my children need to apply for s study permit and wife to apply separately?

1. Do I apply for my family along with my WP application or first get the permit and then apply for them.

Thank you

1. Yes. Apply for their study permits. What grade is your 18 year old in. When is your child starting post-secondary.
2. Apply all together if you have strong profile. Nothing is guarantee. If only you get approved, then come to Canada and try and apply again. Assume you oldest will be in post secondary by then.

Thank you for the reply.

You mentioned that if only I get approved, then we can come to canada and then try the study permit. Do I understand that if I get approved, even then I can bring my family with me?

My other child is 16 years old and will be going to high school. Do I need a study permit for him as well?

I am confused how I can tie together my own work permit, my children's high school and post secondary study permits and my wife's visa? Very confusing.

Will be grateful for any clarification.

Regards

Assume you are applying for a closed work permit with a LMIA.

Does your spouse and your children have visitor visas? If your 16 year old doesn’t have a visitor visa then should apply for a study permit. Your spouse applies for a open work permit. If refused, you come to Canada on your own and apply again.

Is your oldest in post secondary? If so she needs to Apply to a college or univeristy, get admission and apply for a study permit (show paid first year tuition and show funds of at least $10k). Your child will pay international fees. Your child’s application is separate from your application.

@Naturgrl, thank you for your quick reply and apologies for my tardy response.

May I ask a few more questions?
For my 16 year old, I read that I will need an acceptance letter from a high- school. It is pretty difficult to decide before arriving in Canada about the area I might live in. How can i then get a letter from some high school?

Essentially, seems that if I want to go along with my family, i need to arrange for the study permits for both my children and then apply for my work permit.

I am planning to apply via C11 to launch my new business. ( you have good knowledge about these matters. May I take up your time and ask about C11 as well?)

Thank you for your time.

Regards

You don’t need an acceptance letter as you don’t know here you will live. Well you need to apply for a work permit along with your younger child’s study permit. Your older child can go ahead and get admission to college, apply for a study permit without your work permit. Again your older child needs to pay international fees, pay first year tuition and show a minimum of $10,000 in personal accounts.

Can’t help on C11. Assume you have received a LMIA exemption to apply for your work permit and have shown that you are operating the business in Canada (rental of office space, staffing plan, business plan, financial ability). Ask your lawyer.

In general you Would need to show 25k minimum for international student plus proof of where funds would come from for other years of study. Your child would also need to get approved for a study permit.
