Sponsoring a Child (URGENT)

Good Morning,

My wife and I landed in Canada in 2008 and lived there for only 1 year and left. In 2021, we were able to get a PRTD under humanitarian and compassionate grounds. In 2011, my wife gave birth to our son and he didn't get the PR nor the Canadian Citizenship.
I am now wondering how can we get our son to Canada ASAP with us. We need him to come with us and join a Canadian School. I understand we can sponsor him but this takes a lot of time for now. We CANNOT leave to Canada and keep our child back home. What options are available for us. How can we give him the PR status? Can he come to Canada under a study visa and then we sponsor him?

Thank you for your help.

Can you include the child if they never had a PR? My child never got a PR status and never entered Canada before. Can they still be included in the application?
No - you can't.

You need to apply for a TRV for the child.

BTW - you cannot sponsor him for PR from outside of Canada. At least one of you needs to move to Canada in order to be able to sponsor your child for PR. If you want to travel together and not be split up, then you need to apply for a TRV for your child and hope it is approved.

What's the expiry date on your PRTD?

Thanks Scylla for the reply.
Does this mean that my child has to apply for a TRV and a study permit to study in a Canadian school? Will I be able to submit a sponsorship application when we all arrive in Canada?

We are all planning to move to Canada together for good. About 5.5 months are left for our PRTD to expire.

If you are not in Canada, the only thing you can apply for your child is TRV as a regular tourist but have family that's PR/citizen.

Your timeline is confusing. Did you got PRTD in 2011??? And are you in Canada right now? Did you stay long enough after you got your PRTD to renewal your PR card?? Do you currently meet your RO?

Apologies for the confusion.
We got the PRTD in 2021 about 2-3 weeks ago.
My son was born in 2011.
We landed in Canada in 2008 and left in 2009.
We are hoping to move to Canada ASAP but want to take our son with us. Once we land in Canada we can apply for a PR renewal directly.
Can the child study in a school with a TRV? When can we sponsor the child? How long does the sponsoring process take?

Your son needs a TRV. Apply asap. Processing times are long and approval is not guaranteed.

He should have no issues studying in Canada on a TRV given you are both PRs and will submit a sponsorship application.

You can only sponsor him once you are physically in Canada. Process will take around a year. It's impossible for you to sponsor him now while outside of Canada.

If your PRTD has special instruction to renew your PR card right after you returned, then sure, you can renewal your PR card.
But normally, you will need to wait till you meet your RO to apply. And you cannot apply to sponsor until you meet your RO.

There is no guarantee that your son will get TRV approval. So in case he got TRV, you need to check with the school district's requirement to enroll him.

Usually, when you get a PRTD under H&C grounds, you are allowed to renew your PR as soon as you land

If you don’t get a TRV or it is taking too long one parent should got to Canada since getting a PRTD again is not guaranteed. In most provinces your child will not have access to healthcare so if needed you’ll need to take out emergency medical insurance and pay for routine care out of pocket.

Extremely surprising that after 13 years someone got a PRTD and looks like 2 others sons may have received PRTD based on H&C a few years ago after only spending 2 weeks in Canada.
