I am doing an application to extend visitor stay for my mom. I am PR of Canada. She is dependent on me in Canada. In documents, they are asking “proof of means of financial support”. What should I submit in there? Should I submit my bank statements or what documents? Do I need to attach letter of explaination?

Please help.

Are you still in India? Your post in July said you were in India.

Actually me and my mom going to Canada soon. We together are going to stay there for few years. So I need to do an application in future for her to expand stay. That’s the reason I’m asking that question in advance.

Unfortunately she can’t leave her home country expecting to be able to extend her visitor status for years. The first hurdle may be even getting entry for 6 months if you are entering together if there is a fear that she is trying to move to Canada with you. If she is able to enter and stay for 6 months she can attempt to extend her stay by submitting proof of her funds and you can include proof of your funds as well. In general visitors on TRVs are expected to show that they have the funds to support their stay in Canada.

Has she received her initial TRV? You are asking about an extension but maybe you mean an initial TRV.

What proof of financial support need to show? Could documents will be on my name such as my bank statement because my mom is homemaker and don’t have any financial support on her name?

So are you applying for her initial TRV? If so yes she must show her own funds, assets, property, etc. If she had savings in her husband’s name that was left to her she could submit that information. You can submit your financial information but that is secondary information.

She already have 10 years visitor visa. My question was which financial support documents she need for her first time visitor record application?

Same information. Proof of her assets that are supporting her while in Canada. You can also include proof of your funds.

I am PR of Canada. Could my bank statement, employment letter etc work? Or do she really have to show her own personal funds and assets?

Your mother should be showing her own assets and you can include your financial information as well. Your mother remains a visitor and a visitor needs to show they have at least some funds. If she has no funds there will be huge concerns about her not returning home. Your plan for her to move to Canada and just extend her TRV indefinitely is not a realistic plan especially when she is entering at the same time as you. IRCC will not like seeing that as a visitor she is attempting to move to Canada with you.

So she has TRV and the maximum stay that she will be allowed is 6 months and you planned to file an extension every 6 months for a few years??

You do know that she is only a visitor and is not supposed to stay indefinately in Canada. If the parents sponsoship doesn't change in the near future, it's under a lottery system. Which means that even after you earn enough income to sponsor her (in 3 or 4 years), your interest to apply may NEVER be picked in the lottery. (Or you may be lucky and be picked the first time. No one knows)

But again, this is a few years down the road and you need to be prepared to arrange services for her in Indian to live alone if you are going to live in Canada permanently.

Yes. You can include your financial info as well. Want to stress again that IRCC do not like it when parents attempt to move with their children to Canada as a visitor so make sure she does have a home to return to.
