You're right. Unfortunately you don't qualify for EI at this time since you no longer hold a valid work permit.

I'm not sure if you'll qualify for EI once you have a work permit again.

Okay, thank you. But I believe Canada will not be considering me as a newbie and my past experiences in Canada will be consider for instance I will have the same SIN number and can use my existing bank accounts.

I got my refusal letter for open work permit extension saying I should stop working. So my company had no choice other than asking me to leave

No you wouldn’t be eligible for EI. Your open work permit expired so that is not grounds for EI. “Asking you leave” is not being fired. Your employer does not have to ask you to leave because you can’t work legally anyways once the permit expires. Plus you can not claim as a visitor.
