Can I apply for work permit extension from India while PR is in process

Hello everyone,

Myself I'm subbu here..I have applied for permanent residence[PR] through Express entry program on June 26th 2020[CEC]. I have completed my medicals and biometrics as well. My application says it is still in progress even today. Currently, I'm in India due to some personal issues. Also, my PGWP got expired on March 21st 2021 while I'm in India itself. I have been speaking with IRCC agents but what they are telling me is that I need to wait for some more time until a final decision has been made by them.So I'm not sure how long will it take furthermore. Can someone please suggest me on what to do now. Is it possible to apply for work permit extension from India and if yes, what will be the time frame for getting it approved?

Unfortunately it's not possible for you to apply for a work permit extension.

To qualify for a BOWP under your CEC application, you would have needed to have submitted your CEC application before your PGWP expired AND also have applied for the BOWP before your PGWP expired. So that is not possible and not an option for you since your PGWP has already expired.

There was also the PGWP public policy that allowed people who were in Canada to extend their PGWP. However you are not in Canada and this policy ended on July 27th. So this is also not an option for you.

I only see two options for you to be able to start working again. One is to wait for your CEC application to be processed and approved and for your PR visa to be issued. The other is to secure a job offer in Canada and an approved LMIA so that you can qualify for a closed work permit.
