Hi guys,
I am currently on pgwp and will be eligible for cec one year experience by end of sept.

I have gf in india and we are planning to get married in December.

What is the quickest way to bring her here?

Options I am thinking are:
1.Apply for pr for both after getting married in December. Inland with outland spouse.
2. Apply for pr in October and later sponsor her after marriage
3. Is there is chance that I can apply vistor visa for her now and apply pr when she comes here?
4.apply for spousal work permit and apply to pr together once she comes to Canada.
5. Is there way we can bring her here using common law?( Its been more than 2 years since I have been to India so I have read that its a long gap and it might get rejected)

Thanks in advance

Fastest way would be for her to get a TRV.

For common law, have you previously lived together for at least one year continuously?

No we haven't lived together for one year.

TRV in the sense spousal work permit?
If you've never lived together then you are not common law.

No - a TRV is not the same thing as a spousal open work permit. A TRV is a tourist visa. She can also apply for a spousal open work permit (after you are married). The spousal open work permit is probably the better choice vs. a TRV.

Thank you so much.
Just in case Can we apply for spousal work permit if my pr application is in progress?
Or if I get my pr can my spouse still apply for work permit?

Yes, you can apply for a SOWP while your PR application is in progress.

Once you get PR, the only way for your spouse to get an OWP is for your spouse to travel to Canada on a TRV and for you to submit an inland spousal sponsorship application while you are both in Canada.

hi @Kumar35823 ,

can you update which option did you use? I am also in a similar situation.

Expired COPR is in progress .. re-medicals request received.

1. thinking whether to get married and request for re-processing of the application or

2. get landed and become PR, subsequently, get married (return to India after getting PR card) and then request for TRV (Tourist visa)

can you please share your experience applying for TRV

TRVs for spouses of PRs aren’t guaranteed so you’d need to be prepared to wait 1+ years and go through sponsosorship

In that case I think it will be smoother for me to add spouse after getting COPR, since I am not yet married

Don't understand this option.

You mean adding your spouse to your PR application after getting married in Dec?
I don't think you will get COPR before Dec if you apply in Oct/Sept.
And make sure that you do not use your COPR that stated "single" if you do get married after you get your COPR.
You need to add your spouse and go through all process of adding her to your application (medical..etc) then there will be new COPR with both you and your spouse on it.

I got my first COPR in Nov-2020 which got expired in Apr-2021, Currently, my medicals request has come and looks like there is a possibility that my COPR might come in a few weeks' time or maybe by year-end.

Yes, I was referring to adding wife after getting married in Dec. Understood I am not going to use the COPR at all for now. Just processing it promptly as I have to travel back to India for marriage and then do the rest of the process.

Didn't realize that you already had COPR last year. So yes, add her to your application and get new COPR.

thanks a lot, it makes sense for me to add spouse after COPR and then travel since I've already lost so many months/years .. Hopefully, it will be only a few more months of the wait period.
