Hi all,

Has anyone first hand or second hand experience or has any information on the vaccine quarantine exemption?

Do we absolutely need to have a quarantine plan to enter into the country even if we have been fully vaccinated more than 2 weeks before traveling?

Thanks

Yes, as per their latest update on the portal, you still need a quarantine plan on arrival (https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/news/2021/07/government-of-canada-announces-easing-of-border-measures-for-fully-vaccinated-travellers.html)

Fully vaccinated travellers who meet the requirements will be exempt from quarantine; however, all travellers must still provide a quarantine plan and be prepared to quarantine, in case it is determined at the border that they do not meet the necessary requirements.

Does this mean that we gotta book a hotel for 2 weeks no matter what, and if we happen to be exempt from a quarantine then we just kind of have to live with the fact that the money spent is going to waste (assuming that I actually have somewhere else to live already)?

The communication is super unclear, I would 100% suggest calling them before making travel plans. I would assume that you would not need to book a hotel (cause that's just a waste of money) and instead have a room or a plan (e.g. you will book a hotel for the duration) if the test does come back positive instead of arriving there and then not having any idea of what you would do in that instance.

I just called CBSA at 1-800-461-9999, and I was told that they aren't making people book hotels, they just want people to have like a hotel in mind so that if it turns out that they do need to be quarantined, they can then book a room at the said hotel if they fail to get the exemption. Oh and another piece of info that I got that may or may not be relevant is that quarantining in shared apartments is only acceptable if you have a private bedroom and bathroom.
