Hello guys.
I recently landed in Montreal and I came to know that during summers while being enrolled in the studies, student can work for upto 40 hours/week (only in summers). So I just want to confirm whether this is true or not?
Thanks in advance.

It is a little more complex than that. You cannot work in the summer if it is not a scheduled break for your program (meaning you are taking classes). Also, you cannot work if you have not started your program yet.

Yes, you can work as much as you want during official summer breaks.

However you cannot work now since you haven't started your studies yet. You won't be able to start working until you start attending classes. Once you start attending classes, you will be able to work up to 20 hours per week. When the summer break comes for your studies, you'll be able to work 40+ hours per week. But again, not possible for you to work now.

When did you start your studies?

Just to tell you all, I started my studies online in January 2021 and landed a few days back.
And One thing more if I am attending full time classes in summer then for how many hours can I work legally?

I am a student of Concordia and they already told one of my batchmate that the students are allowed to work upto 40 hours even they enrolled in summer courses. Check with your institution about that.

For what I know:

- You can only work after you have started classes.
- You can work 20 hours a week during study terms.
- You can work 40 hours during summer break term, as long as your program does has a summer break.
- You can't work by the time you finish your complete program, you have to submit a PGWP.

Does institution play any role?
I'm not sure about it!!!
If I'm from some college supposedly ABC, then working hours for the student of the same college will differ from the working hours of the another student who is studying from college let's say DEF.
Right?

This is correct. If summer is scheduled break, and you are enrolled for classes whether part time or full time, you are allowed to work full time. If your School do not have scheduled break and you decide to create your own, it is considered as leave from studies and you are not eligible to work
