Also, wow. They announced you can take the oath from outside Canada!! How come?? Shouldn't we tear the PR card down during the oath? Would they cancel that and let us keep it till we're back in Canada? Or we'll still have to destroy it and they will send us the certificate internationally and we'd apply for the passport from a Canadian embassy/consulate?

"You need to be in Canada to take the Oath of Citizenship. If you get your invitation while you’re outside Canada, reply to the invitation email to explain your situation in detail.

In your email

  • put “Outside Canada – Oath of Citizenship” in the subject line
  • In the body of your message, include
    • your full name
    • your application number
    • a detailed explanation of your situation

We’ll contact you with your next steps after we receive your email."

They did not announce that you could take the oath outside Canada. All they say is that you should contact them with an explanation if you are outside Canada. The "next steps" could well be nothing more than rescheduling the given oath date.

Well, we'll have to tread carefully with oath. The wording is a little different when you compare it with the wording under Citizenship Test "If you’re outside of Canada" section.

It says "You need to be in Canada to take the Oath of Citizenship. If you get your invitation while you’re outside Canada, reply to the invitation email to explain your situation in detail."

I am NOT sure if they will allow applicants to take oath outside Canada because of the reasons I mentioned here.

Now, if IRCC has found a way to workaround this (like mailing the citizenship certificate outside Canada using a secure courier), then it is possible that the applicant will be allowed to take oath from outside Canada.

We'll need confirmed reports from a few applicants to see if IRCC allows this.

Nowhere is there any suggestion that anyone will be allowed to take the oath while outside Canada!

Well, that's pretty much what I said too LOL. The wording is different for oath and test and we'll have to tread very carefully for oath because it says you'll have to be present in Canada. IRCC is asking applicants to send an email if you're outside Canada and have received an oath invitation but that doesn't guarantee you'll be able to take oath while you're overseas.

Either way, IRCC might have some surprises up its sleeve. We never know. Eventually, when someone who is overseas receives oath invite, they will contact IRCC and hopefully post an update on the forum with IRCC's response. We'll have to wait for some confirmed reports in order to either accept or debunk this idea.

I hope they find a way to allow this because otherwise, the backlog will only grow. People will keep rescheduling their oath ceremonies and when they are back in Canada, they'll have to be accommodated and applicants who applied after them will see their oath ceremonies delayed. We don't want that. We want the backlog to go down, not up.

It's about time IRCC started allowing applicants to start taking oaths outside Canada.

To mention my case processing local office is MIS
We seem to have similar timelines - Gave test on July 2nd and got the test marked as complete on July 5th.. But I'm still waiting for my passport scan request :-(

I'm a Jan 2021 applicant though.. so i wonder whether I'll be placed on hold for 4 months before my file is revisited

Not everyone receives passport pages request.

I was thinking... We're all receiving passport pages request. It would be fun if we receive DM around the same time and all of us are squeezed in the same oath ceremony (since we all belong to Mississauga office) :) . That'll be fun!

I'm definitely anticipating a request though... Have a lot of travel.. and most of it was before the time when air carriers were mandated to share passenger manifests with CBSA

Even better if they open up in person oath ceremonies, but that is just a dream for now.

I got FP request on Jun 14 and did my finger print on Jun 16. Its been a month I don't see any activity on Background Verification. I got my gcms notes extracted as of Jul 13 I dont see any update there as well. However I can see all activity like Test done etc., which are around end of june. Not sure who to check with ?? RCMP whether they completed the request or CIC whether they receive it ? Appreciate any advice.

I've updated the spreadsheet. What do you see the status as for Language, Physical Presence and Prohibitions and Background Checks? Ask about FP in the following thread, you may receive a response :

That is very strange. The GCMS notes normally shows when fingerprints have been received and when they have been processed. I think you should check with both RCMP and IRCC to see what is going on. But first, look at the GCMS notes on the parts that have to do with the fingerprint requests. There should be an internal "due date" for the IRCC officer handling it. If it is not past the "due date", then perhaps you should not worry so much.

The remainder of my stages (Prohibitions, Language, Presense) got set to completed, meaning the ceremony is the only thing left. My application still says "In progress", but does this ever get set to "Decision made", or should I basically just update the spreadsheet with decision made on today's date?

Hi, could I know if you were requested to send all pages of your passport and/or Fingerprints? Thanks
