Can I leave Canada for family emergency while my application is in process?

Hi everyone,
I have submitted my application in December of 2020. I am being sponsored by my common-law partner for PR and I also submitted a work permit at the same time. I have not heard back from IRCC with the approval of my applications. I want to travel to go see my grandmother who is very ill and I want to go say my goodbyes. Is it possible to leave Canada for 2 weeks and come back with no issues? I don't want to risk my application being affected by me leaving Canada.

What's your country of origin? Do you have a valid TRV or eTA?

I have a valid ETA and a TRV that is valid until November 2021. My country of origin is Switzerland and I would be traveling there and back. I qualify to re-enter under my common-law status with my ETA with no issues, I just don't want to jeopardize the work permit that I have not received approval for. I submitted it in December and the processing times for it should be 4 months but I'm assuming that due to covid it has been delayed because I should've received it by now. I was under the impression that I couldn't leave while the application was in process, but now after doing research I have learned that I can leave as long as it's not for extended periods of time. I just want to double-check prior to booking my flight.

My lawyer recommended us not to leave! Cause they can deny entrance upon coming back and something about if we weren’t here when they requested the passport then it would consider that we withdrew our application, but I might be wrong.

another thing to consider is that you will have to follow the quarantine process upon coming back, so stay at a hotel and then the 14 days quarantine, since the exemption for being vaccinated only applies to citizens and permanent residents!

You can leave. Technically re-entry to Canada is never guaranteed. However the chances of you having issues returning are very low.

OWPs are generally taking 8-10 months these days.

There should not be provided you keep your trip to a few weeks and have no issues re-entering Canada.
