Hi,
I am moving to Canada(Quebec) from USA(Boston) for a temporary period (8 to 10 months) and looking for car insurance in USA which covers my car in Canada also. I dont have intentions to change my US registratio, license etc. as its for a short term only.

My current car insurance is Geico and they said they can only cover for 1st 3 months. Are there any other insurance companies in USA which can cover my car in Canada as well for this short period?

Sorry to wake up an ancient thread, but does anyone have experience with this? I'm in a nearly identical situation, moving USA (Boston) to Ontario, for two years on an open work permit off my spouse's study permit. I've gotten confirmation that Ontario is fine to let me use an International Driving Permit for as long as I remain a temporary resident, but I haven't been able to find any US insurance that will cover me, and was hoping to avoid temporary import, new license, new registration, new inspection, just to undo it all in two years. Let me know if anyone has had any luck with this, or even partial solutions (Canadian insurance that will cover a car registered in the US but garaged in Ontario, etc.) Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. Thanks!

If you are actually relocating to Canada you won’t be able to avoid getting coverage through a Canadian insurance company.
