Hi, please can anyone help with my question. A friend's dad applied for his refugee status and got his residency once was approved he sponsored his children and wife.
I heard the dad cannot return to his home country even after getting residency.

1. Can dad return to his home country?
2. What about the children are they allowed to return to their home country to?
3. And please is the Refugee Travel Document same as the Permanent Residence Travelling document

Thanks in advance for any answers.

For those that have renewed RTD with PR card, what's the appropriate to fill in the column SECTION 3: Proof of Immigration Status in Canada as the Document Number when option PR card is chosen? I have seen different opinion from people stating it is the UCI #,CoPR #, and the Alphanumeric at the back of PR card, so I'm kind of confused a little bit.

If you are a convention refugee or a protected person meaning you hold a positive decision from the IRB, then yes you can get an RTD without the need to have COPR or PR itself. In short, RTD stands for Refugee Travel Document so a positive NOD is enough.
I hv both RTD and NOD and also got copr so what i mean is in the copr email it’s mentioned that if im outside and wants to come back to canada i will need permanent residence travel document

CBSA says that you must have PR card or PRTD to travel to Canada, along with your RTD. Please read official text

Permanent residents may also travel to Canada with a Canadian Refugee Travel Document, a Canadian Certificate of Identity or a Single Journey Travel Document. Where a permanent resident travels on one of these documents, the permanent resident must be in possession of a permanent resident card or permanent resident travel document (counterfoil).
And I know personally a refugee who was denied boarding in Germany because they didn't have their PR card.

So... to travel back to Canada :
Before CoPR : You only need RTD.
After CoPR : You need (a) RTD (b) PR card or PRTD.

I think they need pr card or prtd because you still have PR obligations (days spent in Canada). Being a refugee doesn't mean you have special PR.. You still have to make sure that you spend at least 2 years in Canada in every 5 years period to keep your PR status

Dad can only return to his home country when he is a Canadian citizen. He can not use his home country passport or risk losing his protected person status. If the children aren't protected people yes they can travel to their home country. No RTD is not the same as PRTD. PRTD is a replacement for a PR card if you don't have access to your PR card. RTD is to replace your home country passport. Not all countries will allow you to travel to their country using your RTD and you may need a visa. Once you get PR you will travel with your PR card and your RTD.

Hello can anyone please reply to this ?
Im planing to travel turkey with RTD and i also got my copr so can i still travel with RTD or i have to apply for permanent residence travel document ? Can anyone please explain !!!
If you have landed as a PR you will need your RTD and your PR card or PRTD to return to Canada. You can only apply for a PRTD from outside CAnada and it can sometimes take many months to receive so it is best to travel with your PR card.

People sometimes suggest the oddest things.. like Why UCI or CoPR when your PR card has its own number? o_O

You should write your PR card number on the back (the one that starts with letters).

You can leave without the card but you can't travel back to Canada without it. If you're going in a long trip you can change your address to a friend here or ask them to check your mail regularly, and if you receive it before returning your friend can mail it to you with UPS or FedEx etc

Other option is to to apply for PRTD from the nearest VO from the country you're in (just make sure they are open).

If you don't need to travel urgently, it's advisable to wait until you get the PR card

No I did not.

I have a question how we will get our RTD it will come to our mail box as normal post or process will be different as we applied through ePost.
When I received mine couple of years ago I had to show ID to Canadapost employee, not sure if they are still doing this especially since Covid19
