Study permit in time for October term? To include dependants in the application?

I have a friend that got approved to a Canadian post-graduate school (received his acceptance letter) but now is wondering whether or not to pay for his tuition for the fall term...

The reason for the wait is because he isn't sure whether to register for the fall term (his program starts in October) or in the winter term. According to the Immigration authorities - applications after May 15 won't be accepted in time for the fall term, but because his program starts in October -- maybe it's worth to try?

The question is: If his study permit gets refused before his October term -- how will be able to study? What happens in the case that someone paid their tuition but doesn't receive their study permit?

Question 2:

I read on this forum that it's best that one doesn't include their wife or kids in the study permit application. Can anyone verify?

If this is the case, how does one get their spouse an open work permit and for their children to enrol in elementary school?

1. He has two choices: reapply for the study permit in hopes to get approved or apply to refund the paid tuition fees. He needs to show the school proof of refusal and they should refund it minus a small administrative fee.

2. Including your spouse and children doesn't neccessarily mean a refusal. However, bringing your family reduces your ties to your home country thus increasing chances of refusal. You need to show other strong proof of ties to your home country.

Is there a way to not include them in the application but - also apply for an open work permit for the wife and schooling for the the child?

Don't know if it's true, but maybe others can add in. But there seems to be a loophole where the main applicant will apply for a study permit alone first and wait to get approved. After that, the wife and children can apply separately mentioning that they want to accompany someone who has recently been approved to come to Canada. This way, two separate applications are judged separately.

Show that you own assets/properties and other reasons why you need to return home after finishing your studies.

If we are mentioning that that the applicant has assets/properties in their home country - than wouldn't it be okay to include the wife and child in the application or is it better not to?

As I mentioned before, showing assets/properties in home country will help your ties. Including the wife and child will decrease your ties. Ask your friend to surf this site for some time and look for threads relevant to this. After that, he/she can make his/her own call.

Of course you should mention the wife and child in the family information form. But you don't have to apply for visas/permits in the portal if they're not accompanying -- at least for the time when applicant waits for SP approval first. It sounds like you really want the wife and child to accompany, if so -- you can apply together if you want. No one can tell whether that leads to an approval or refusal.

I think you have left it too late. Tuition fee receipt usually takes a week or two to be generated. Assuming the visa process takes 8 weeks, you need another week or two after getting PPR in order for the TRV to be stamped -- only then you can depart to Canada. I think it's best if you defer to winter 2022 intake but really it's your call.

You can contact the college and ask to defer. They can then issue you a new LoA with the new start and end dates.

Your family accompanying you to Canada is not a given. Some chose not to hqve their family join them and some families are not approved to join the student. If your friend will not study in Canada without their family they should probably apply all together. The spouse will apply for an OWP and the children only need a TRV.

You mean steps to take to submit SP application ? You create a GCkey account, answer the questionnaire which then will lead you to a list of documents you need to attach. There's plenty of tutorials on youtube to guide you.
