Hello everyone,

I'm planning to get a visitor visa for my fiance who is currently living in India. I have a PR and we are getting married in January 2022. From various threads, I have realized that its better to get spousal visa for my wife after marriage. However, it takes 12 months or so (which would be around January 2023) to get the spousal PR which means that I'd only get to meet her for our wedding and not until she gets her PR. I have a job in Canada and my job wouldn't allow me to take another vacation to see her in 2022 and its really difficult to stay apart for such a long time. Is there a way I could get a visitor visa for her so she could at least come to visit me sometime in 2022? If so, how can she prove strong ties with her home country? My fiance had a job that she had already quit, she does not have a property and she lives off of her parents expenses.

You can certainly try but it can be very difficult. It’s unfortunate that she doesn’t have longterm employment.

@canuck78 thank you for your prompt response. She is preparing for her civil services exam which will happen sometime in 2022. She has to return to India for that exam and later apply for a job in civil services in India itself if she clears. Would that be enough to show strong ties with home country?

It doesn't make much sense to take all these exams if she will be moving to Canada

Ok thank you! It all depends on whether she'd clear the exam. I'm sorry I forgot to mention that earlier. I guess its better to just apply for spousal PR and take it from there. If we still apply for her visitor visa and God forbid it gets refused, I know they ask in the PR application if the visa was ever refused. What should we put for the reason for refusal? Would the reason be the same that they put for the refusal? Would it affect the spousal PR application later?

TRV refusal won't affect spousal sponsorship.
