Hi Aritra,

You can definitely leave Canada and travel to India but to re-enter Canada from India (or any other country for that matter) you will need authorization in the form of a visa. Without this you won’t be able to board your flight to Canada.

FYI: Your work permit allows you to stay in the country - live, work & study for less than 6 months at a time. Your TRV allows you re-entry to Canada.

Are you planning on getting your TRV while you’re abroad in India?

I don't understand your question. You have a valid work permit, so you are OK to stay in Canada.
You can travel out of Canada wihtout TRV.

Just that you need a valid TRV to enter Canada after (if you plan to do so in the future)

Thanks for the answer.. actually I am planning not to process TRV now..as I am planning to leave another 2-3 months..(TRV stamping might take more time).

I will process this after I reach India.

I would say apply for the trv now because current processing times for a trv are 130 days

Depending on where you will be when you apply for TRV (India or a third country) processing times could be lengthy. So plan accordingly- you definitely do not want to be stuck if visa offices are closed in India because of the covid situation.

You should apply for TRV now and then request to do your stamping in India. Many people have gotten stuck abroad waiting for varies visas and permits so you risk having to remain in India for longer than you planned. Assume you realize that nobody should be travelling due to the pandemic and you should be prepared in case you do get stuck in India for covid related reasons. Assume there is also a chance that quarantine rules may change for returning travelers once Canada gets community spread under control to try to prevent a 4th wave.
