I hear you and agree with all the problems IRCC is facing. Canada is the only country which is so open to immigration right now hence they should be prepared to have these many applications. If they are not able to process applications then they should stop introducing new programs untill they fix basics.

If they feel people are cheating, let them have a quick telephone interview which can just be matter of few minutes. This will quickly help seperate the good from bad in matter of minutes. You may have been lucky to get SP but think about all of those who had great profiles rejected just because they come from a third world country or VO didnt spend enough time to go through their documents. All I'm asking is a fair review and not put everyone in the naughty list. It is their job and they can't keep blaming pandemic for everything. They need to evolve and find ways to solve rather than just complain.

I totally love and respect Canadian values and I never said anything bad about the country. I dont know why you came to that conclusion. Coming from third world country I totally understand it is a privilege to be there.
I also came from a third world country, I know how it feels like first hand. And I don’t think I got my SP through luck. I planned everything properly. I know what I want to take up and I researched my college even before I applied, including the community surrounding the college. I even researched about the different modes of transportation. So, I was able to write my own SOP and was able to explain why I was taking that program at that particular college and how it would benefit me back home. It took me two full years to plan everything from research up to application. I reviewed extensively for IELTS, especially the writing module. I used that writing technique to write my SOP. At age 47 and two decades of unrelated work experience from my previous study, my case would have been an outright refusal. But, I was able to explain everything in my SOP simply because I did my research and know exactly what I want.

When I applied back in 2018, SDs was 30 days average. I applied under SDS, while a friend applied under regular stream. He got approved in 3 weeks time while I got my approval after 1 month and 1 week. What was the reason my SDS took longer than my friend’s non-SDS? I don’t know and I don’t care. We were both thankful because we both got approved. That’s all that mattered.

Applying for SP, even with a strong profile, is still a 50-50% chance. There is no guarantee. That’s a fact we have to accept. But with proper planning and strategy, anyone could get a better chance. Start by doing your research, and don’t rush things. Take one step at a time. Worry about other matters later. Stop relying on other people’s timeline, they will only add to your depression. Like what I mentioned before, each application is different. So, other people’s timeline may not apply to you, or yours to them. If somebody got an approval in just seven days, so what? Don’t feel bad because yours is taking longer than usual. Focus on your own application and nothing more. Ask the veterans here for tips and advice. Don’t take it personally if they throw curve-ball questions at you. Better to ask them to give you absurd questions that they can think of. Use those questions to your advantage. if you can address those questions, then you know you can address some of the possible questions the VO may throw at you.

Canada, their country, their rules. Even with an approved application, they still reserve the right to refuse you at POE. Can’t argue about that. But, trust me, nobody could better understand you than those who have gone through that rough path you are now travelling.

Patience is a virtue. And nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. if others can get approval, so can you.

Totally agree to everything you mentioned. I am a 27 year old homemaker ( currently on a sabbatical and accompanying my husband in a middle eastern country while he works here).

I applied twice and got rejected. My GPA is 6.4 out of 7 and my ielts is 9 bands overall. My SOP was excellent (my IRCC lawyer told me so). I am not a textbook student, I can vouch for myself that I am a literal student who is spending money in Canada to “literally study” and then of course settle there.

I have been learning about Canada since 2017. I know everything from rental properties to transportation to median salaries for all the common jobs we immigrants apply for there to taxes in every province to affordability in each every province. I even calculated the timing I will leave home to reach my Uni in a bus, car or biking. I have read threads from locals in my University city where they discuss about specific professors (I don’t even know if I will get a visa for the third time) yet I keep educating myself about anything & everything about my study plan.
Do you think a person who literally did so much would not write a comprehensive SOP explaining their reasons to come there? Mind you my course was IN LINE with my education & work experience.
My first rejection was solely on the basis of “LIVING IN SAUDI ARABIA AND THE NON PERMANENCY OF LIFE HERE”.
In my second SOP I wrote briefly explaining to them my future plans and clearly mentioning that after my studies I will return back to my home country and even attached property documents to prove the same.
They rejected my application again inspite of CHANGING MY SOP and addressing the refusal reasons.
I absolutely appreciate Canada and it’s immigration policies but I support Shaild when he said they need a better SYSTEM!
People like me are not going to Canada for the money but for the North American life so yes if they gave me a chance to have a telephonic interview, I might convince them for a PR. Their entire study permit system is a game of luck and VISA OFFICER’s gut feeling.

A telephone interview would not be any different than a written SOP. How can the VO be sure that he is talking to the applicant or the applicant’s agent?

Afaik, KSA does not offer permanent residency. So, applying from there, if you are not a citizen, shows weak ties to home country due to your immigration status in that country. Again, if the Canadian system is so bad, why apply here in the first place? If the entire study permit system is a game of luck, then you just admitted that you think Canada is not a conducive country for immigrants. If other countries offer better immigration system, why not apply there? In physics, this is called “path of least resistance.” And in logic, this is called common sense. So far, nobody has given any reason why they insist on applying in Canada when they already think that canada is unfair. Go figure.

Please read again the difference between the country and the immigration filtering system! Very clearly mentioned. Read again. All people are complaining about is their system of not reading through the applications or not examining the files fairly. Read again. The difference. Now you GO FIGURE.

If there is already a problem with the immigration system, how can you say that the whole country’s system is any better? Very simple actually, just use Occam’s razor. Now back at you.

People who can’t frame a coherent sentence are getting SOPs written for 10-15k INR (300 CAD). I have seen people with zero understanding of the course they are going for getting an SP only because an agent helped them and they slipped through the cracks. Going to Canada is our choice but that doesn’t mean you can’t raise questions on the unfairness of the system. You were lucky to get an SP. People like me who have excellent grades and are genuine students yet are not slipping through the cracks. Also you don’t have to get offended, we live in a free world. When you spend 1000s of dollars on an application and it gets rejected without even being properly assessed, it’s an individual’s choice to raise questions on the fairness of the system. Last time I checked, just because you are applying somewhere to immigrate doesn’t mean you lose your FOE.

Are you implying that every single ministry of a country performs exactly the same? You are having problems understanding the difference between someone complaining about a stream and A COUNTRY! Nobody is hating on the country, all disappointment is on the STUDY PERMIT SYSTEM.To explain to you simply, the EE system is simple and not complicated. You meet the pre requisites, you get the PR whereas in the SP system, it’s all LUCK! Again I’d say it’s all luck. I hope you do know that you are allowed to complain in a democracy where you are paying for services etc and it’s disappointing you.
Have a great night or day.

I get what you are saying. Yes, I know international students who use the web to “rephrase” a whole paper so that they can get away with turnitin. And that’s exactly the reason why policies and restrictions are changing. Like I said before, Canada is not perfect. it is still evolving. Canada always try to correct itself whenever it can.

Unfortunately in your situation, it is most likely VO would give you another refusal. You have good profile but things would be different if you applied from your home country, plus you are on sabbatical leave. Two factors " Current Employment Status" and "ties to your home country" may determined the outcome

That somehow prove there are guidelines which to me is sort of the system and VO like any other officers of many countries have discretion during determination. I would associate unfairness with privilege and I don't mean to say the Immigration system is perfect, NO... It is not and there are situation where you can't get an answer ( example: new public policy granting holder of soon to expire/expired pgwp extension because of pandemic, leaving out those who has remained with 1 year before expiring ). It make no sense. To me, EE and Spousal sponsorship are the easiest route to permanent residence and cost less money to achieve compared to SP....

Ofcourse I understand that too but unfortunately our time and money is being wasted because we weren’t subjected to fair examination. I am lucky enough to apply two to three times but trust me there are people who cannot afford to spend that kind of money repeatedly and they are excellent candidates themselves. You’ll be shocked to know.

Have a great day, too!

But where did you get the idea that I’m implying that every ministry of a country performs the same? I am not having problems understanding the difference between someone complaining about a country’s immigration system and the country. What i am trying to understand is why people complain about a country’s immigration system and yet still thinks it is a better country. If the point of entry alone sucks, how can the rest be any better?

Most applicants can barely afford to apply. As most applicants come from third world countries. Otherwise, if an applicant’s country is any better, they would not apply here in the first place. i mean, what’s the point?

Patience is a virtue. And nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. if others can get approval, so can you.
Interesting. You say you didn't get your SP by luck yet you say even with strong profile there is a 50-50% chance. I don't know about you but that's luck for me.

I am not disregarding your point of view as you have applied under totally different circumstance and country. SP process is extremely subjective right now and riding high on emotion due to the workload. Everyone's mileage varies so I don't see a point in moving this conversation further. I am glad it worked for you. Everyone fights their own battles and I'm preparing for the next.

Hey! This person had applied under totally different circumstance and is not aware of how the AUH office works. I think there is no point in discussing this. People are not always open for two way conversation and always try to outweigh based on something they know. I think no point dragging this conversation any further.

But that doesn't mean ALL of International students come from third world countries. I went through open data source of Government of Canada, India top the list quarter of all active SP in 2020 followed by China and Hongkong…I guess China/Hongkong do not belong to 3rd world countries. That means there are students coming from first world countries and decides to seetle in Canada. My point is, there could be other reasons that compelled students from first world countries to study in Canada, so is economic reasons students from third world countries want to come here. Canada need immigrants for economic and social reasons irrespective of Country of origin. My MBA class of 2018 had over 30% of students from Saudi Arabia sponsored by KSA, to give an example…. From German, UK, Swiss and Domestic Students….
