This new information is so confusing! In one breathe they say you just need to change DLI in your CIC account, in another they say you need to submit a new SP application for DLI change.

To answer your question, it seems we need to report to the school for which the SP was granted first, prior to changing. Otherwise, we need to submit a fresh application. Makes no sense at all.

They are constantly changing the rules on their damn website without publicizing it. This is so frustrating!!!!

I an wondering if we go to Canada and get SP, should we go to university before changing dli?
As it is written, you should do enrollment and actively studying. What does that mean?
Before this change also it was the same for changing dli in Canada?

No it wasn't like that until March 2021. Previously, all you had to do was update your DLI on your GCKey but I guess people were abusing this by changing to irrelevant programs and lesser qualifications.

I was planning to land in Canada and after a week, change my DLI but I don't want to mess around with IRCC. The stress of getting into trouble once in Canada is not worth the $150 of re-applying for me.

So I'm going to re-apply and hope they process it quickly in time for my booked trip in July.

It's good to change your DLI before entering Canada by applying a new SP.
I don't know why it's hard to follow the rules set by IRCC.

You do realize when you land, a CBSA officer goes through your documents etc? Does a small interview where they ask you questions.
And if someone wants to not follow the rules, and lie to the CBSA officer that they are gonna study at the same DLI, but change later on, can be a misrep?

Again, don't play with IRCC.
Good luck everyone.

Exactly my thinking. Maybe people are worried they will get refused - which is not very likely. As long as the school you are changing to is legit and the program is in line with what you previously applied for, there should be no reason for refusal. In my case, IRCC even said I don't need to reapply for the study permits of my 4 kids because they are not changing their DLIs. Why leave my kids with SPs and TRVs if they might refuse me their parent my re-application.

The only cost here is time and $150 which I understand might be an unexpected additional cost but in the grand scheme of things, still a small price to pay.

Yep, again there's a famous quote we talk here when it comes to IRCC, "Be truthful, they'll be good, mis rep and face a possible ban".

I hope your apps get approved soon, keep us updated and good luck.

I have another question about changing DLI

I'm international student in Canada, I have studied fulltime on the last 2 terms Sept - Dec 2020 and Jan-April 2021
I just changed the schools , DLI recently
Can I still work off campus fulltime this summer ? or I have to wait until Sept 2021 when I start studying in the new school then I can work off campus.

Thank you

Hello RockT,

If the program has been completed and you have a new LOA to another DLI (following a scheduled break) and/or are currently enrolled as a full-time student, you can work full time during the summer (before the start of the new program).

Best of Luck
