Getting married overseas: Potential Delay in Citizenship Application?

Hi everyone,

I recently got married overseas to a non-Canadian, and notified CIC via web form as the Citizenship application instructions say that I need to notify them of any changes in civil status. I did this and got acknowledgment from CIC, and I'm just curious if this could lead to potential delays in my application?

My BG check is actually already complete but I'm worried that CIC might restart the process from scratch on grounds of me getting married overseas.

Hmmm I don't think it might cause any additional delays IMO.

Unlike PR, you can't add spouse to your citizenship application, so to speak. So, I don't think this will cause any sort of delay.

What exactly did their response look like?

Thanks! That makes me feel a bit better. They didn't really say much aside from their usual "COVID delayed us" spiel. The only part of their message to me that appeared unique was:

"We verified the information you provided and have forwarded it to the responsible office.

Furthermore, we are pleased to confirm that the application is still in process."

I don't know if I'm being nitpicky here, but I don't think CIC should be saying "they are pleased to confirm the application is still in process" like it's a positive thing; given the huge backlog on their end.

LOL. "Furthermore, we are pleased to confirm that the application is still in process." isn't really appropriate. But it is what it is, I guess.
