Do you need an LMIA to have your PGWP jobs count towards CEC/FSW?

Title says it all. According to this page, to have a 'valid' job offer that counts either towards the Canadian Experience Class or the Federal Skilled Workers class applications, your employer needs a new positive LMIA unless you are working on a work permit issued based on an LMIA or the job is exempt from needing an LMIA. According to this page, you may need a LMIA for jobs held with a PGWP.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I am applying for a PGWP and I already have a job lined up (I had lined it up before I graduated). I don't think the job is exempt from needing an LMIA. I am not sure whether I should alert my employer to this for a future CEC/FSW application.

If you want to claim the 50 points for having a job offer under Express Entry / CEC / FSW, then yes, you need an approved LMIA.

Normally around six months. It's quite an involved process for the employer (i.e. requires a lot of work) and there's no guarantee of approval at the end. Only makes sense to go through the LMIA process if it's reasonable to say that a Canadian could not be found and hired for the role. This is one of the criteria the employer needs to demonstrate for the LMIA to be approved.
