I am 41 years old Indian citizen and completed my degree in Bachelor of Commerce (BCOM) in India in the year 2000 and have been working since then in various IT and non- IT companies in India I am currently working in a leading IT company as a Infrastructure Project Manager for the last 4 years. So with my age and gap in education for 20 years, will I be able to get LOA and visa for a one year graduate certificate course in Project Management in Canada colleges to enhance my career growth prospects in Project Management field, since I dint have formal education in Project management. Kindly advise.

Chances are, you won't get a Study permit with a graduate certificate given your age and experience. Your best bet is to go for a relevant
Master's program in a public university.

Thank you. I will consider that. Also, can you expand a bit as to why a certificate program would be rejected if I am choosing that since I have work experience in this field?

If you have been a project manager for four years, why do you need to come to Canada now to take a certificate program. How will it lead to career advancemen? Also project management courses are in every country so why can’t you take it in your home country. A project management program can be taken part-time while you work full-time. It can be done either on-line or in-person.

The people on this forum are not admissions or ircc officers and age is not a barrier to getting an outright refusal, this sort of question will only get answered if you make your own enquiries with colleges/universities, you will only find out fully after you apply

indeed but according to stats and stories from everyone. high rejection rate with old applicants especially ones who applied for IT / Management courses when they have experience. indeed age is not a barrier but IRCC made Study Permit application more stricter since so many people been caught abusing that for PR pathway or immigrating to Canada.

Better to go for "Executive MBA" with specialisation in Project Management in a public university. Build a strong, convincing statement of purpose. you may also consult with an immigration agency to help you out. Good luck.

Its up to him/her to decide whether to take advice and work on suggestions or not... thats why there are stats and records we rely to make some decisions.

Just to share my experience...

I was 47 years old when I applied for my SP. Original field of study was Aeronautical Engineering done in 1994. Since 1996 up until I applied for SP, I had a steady progression of work experience in IT. Got accepted at Durham College for a 2year college diploma program in Computer Systems Technician (but i shifted after the 1st sem to Computer Programming). Started in Winter 2019 semester and finished my 4th semester in Winter 2020 semester. Received my completion letter (finished my program with honours) end of May 2020. Applied for my PGWP on June 3, 2020 and approved September 21, 2020 (a day before my 49th birthday). October I got accepted and started a NOC 2281 job on a permanent position offer.

Age is not a barrier. Make a strong SOP. Explain why your intended program would benefit you once you go back to your home country. IRCC knows that most of us intend to immigrate later after gaining Canadian education and work experience. I think the reason they want us to convince them that we will go back is that in case we don’t do well in Canada, we would still have a decent career chance back in our home country. Therefore, there is less likelihood that we will stay here illegally beyond our valid status. Just my opinion, though...

Best wishes to your application!

In your situation, choice of the program is in demand in Canada...System priotize admission into field of high demand. BC Government updates list of occupations in high demand on its 10years vision, and i recall Human Resources and others were removed from the list. So age sometime is used as a factor but they cant mention in refusal letter as it is descriminatory based
