Dear all ,

I would like to have some clarifications if possible concerning my situation:

My wife and I landed in Canada 5 years ago, she stayed in Canada for more than 3 years and met the PR obligations and just applied for citizenship.

I didn’t meet the PR obligations, becuase I have been working abroad and my PR card expired, and I am planning to renounce my PR status so I can obtain a visa to visit Canada and see my family.

My questions :

  • once my wife have the Canadian citizenship , can she sponsor me again to obtain a PR status despite the fact that I have renounced my current PR status?
  • if she is allowed to sponsor me to have a new PR status, and if later on I meet PR obligations, can I apply for Canadian citizenship?
Regards

Yes she can sponsor you again. If you meet the RO you can apply for citizenship. You aren’t guaranteed a TRV. Given your ties to Canada there may be concerns that you are not going to be a temporary visitor. While you still have a valid PR card and still have PR status you are guaranteed entry. Would suggest you renounce and reapply for sponsorship right after a visit so if you don’t get a TRV you will have recently visited.
