Hello everyone,

My wifes parents applied for trv to canada because we are expecting our first baby in mid of may and got refused. It is mentioning mainly about due covid restrictions, the reason of the travel is not reasonable and not exempt to travel and then not satisfied with the purpose of the travel.

My question is, parents visiting for the pregnancy reason wont be an essential travel? Because I know foreign nationals cannot travel now unless it is an essential travel...

Please advise.

Your input is really appreciated

Thank you

Seems as though you are on WPs so parents do not qualify for travel exemptions. Although having family in Canada may be nice it is not essential. Your wife does have you for support so will not be alone.

Yes, this is not essential travel.
Before applying we asked ircc about this reason and they said meeting immediate family members is essential travel...and we clearly said the reason and they told about meeting immediate family members...

Did you specify that you were on a WP not citizen or PR? Customer service agents can't give assurances about how visa officers will rule.

Thank you for your reply. It is not advisable to apply again right...

I cant exactly remember if I mentioned that or not. If I am under PR, this can be an essential travel inviting foreign nationals (parents)

If you are a PR or citizens parents are travel exempt. They must still qualify for a TRV.

But you are on a PGWP/OWP so you don’t meet the exemption of immediate family since you are not PR or a citizen. So your parents travel is not viewed as essential during Covid. You can try again but they also need written authorization.

This is the first time we applied and got refused. But if it is not essential travel, chances are high to get refused again?
Very hard to comment without knowing their situation and what was specified as why they were denied. Did they get denied for aa TRV or for the special authorization to travel? Did you submit the request for special authorization to travel as well?

Thank you for your reply. In the website it says written authorization will be given by the same time when the process the Visa, if they are exempt and written authorization will be given with the visa.may be I am wrong. In this case what should I do?
