Abnormal chest xray - potential active tuberculosis

Hi Friends, I went for my medical check, everything went fine except for my chest xray.
They mentioned "there is a moderate infiltrate right upper lobe and cavitation cannot be ruled out". For that reason, i am required to submit 3 sputum samples on the same day with 1 hour intervals.
next step would be to see a tuberculosis specialist and that would make my medical test complete. However, i would obviously have to get rid of tb before getting approved for PR..

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I have to admit that it's terrifying news and i have also been reading that it could be deadly.
i am 29 and pretty healthy, hard to believe how I could have developed active tb..

Thanks

Did you have TB in the past at anytime? Its not necessary you have, I have seen lot of such cases where sputum test comes negative, another chest Xray after three months and their medical exam passed. What is you current status?

I am currently advised for sputum test, I have submitted sample on day 1, I have to visit for another 2 consecutive days to submit sample, the result will be only available after 8 weeks. Repeat X-ray in couple of months.

Regards!

Thanks for replying ! My current status is PGWP and it expires in December. I have never been diagnosed with TB before. I'm pretty curious about why would lungs show signs of cavity if it's not TB? Maybe I got TB before and it just went dormant. I'm pretty worried about whether it could be something equally dangerous..

I met with the specialist that the panel physician directed me to. With specialist, I did second chest xray as well as sputum test.
Sputum test for Smear was negative and I'm currently waiting for culture test. I guess that would take around 6-8 more weeks.
They also told me that I will be contacted soon for CT scan.

I am also supposed to submit another sputum test to lifelabs ( 3 sputum test - 1 hour interval between each ). I will take care of that this week itself..

Its probably not that serious, people who have scars due to childhood cold often show up on X-ray, there could be many other minor reasons and does not always mean it is tb, that is why they ask for sputum test to confirm. Dont panic, just have patience. My dad had in the past similar experience, he was found negative at the end of 3 months, his visa was approved within a week. I am hoping the same for me, I am going this morning for day 2 sputum collection and tomorrow for day 3 and then will wait for 2 months.

Wish you good luck my friend and keep me posted.

Yes, i am a pretty healthy person generally..rarely get sick. Yes, as long as you have active tb, you are ineligible until you let canada know that you will follow their treatment ( I believe it's daily antibiotics for like 6 months.) then you need to get another xray after treatment to prove that you are no longer infected.
I think if your last medical was good, you should be fine. It's extremely unlikely to develop tb in Canada. I would not worry in your situation ;)
Btw i went to the specialist and got my smear results back, they told me i'm not contagious. So no more self-isolation for me.
Also i'm still showing no symptoms yet so i highly doubt it's active tb ( Its possible that i got it before but it went dormant thus why i might have some sort of cavities..still skeptical about that though, i have never really got something that feels like tb)..gotta wait for culture test now to be sure and then they will make me do a CT scan.

Thanks a lot for the support my friend !

Thanks for your words, it helped me cope with that anxiety, I appreciate. I hope that's what the case is. I just heard from the doctor this week as my smear test came back, and i was not contagious ( which might mean that i dont have active tb)..but still gotta wait for culture test results and ct scan.
Any updates on your situation?
I wish you the best of luck too, seems like a long journey ahead but we will get out of it.

My initial test on Genexpert is negative and AFB smear is also negative, just need to wait till the culture tests are in and then follow up X-ray, its long wait, trying to be patient at this time. Lets stay connected!

Hi guys. Just went to the clinic after receiving medical furtherance letter. Upon consultation the doctor asked me that IRCC requested for additional examination due to abnormalities on my xray. I was advise to go for sputum test followed by xray after 3 months. Honestly at first i felt sad as it only meant delay on our application, some more the additional test is costly here in Singapore. But i am trying to be positive and praying it will be ok soon. Hope everything will be fine and they won’t ask for CT scan.

Hi.
Hi. I have a question. We just got a medical furtherance And asking for sputum and cheat x ray. But they told us to get the e xay done after 20th august. And we just have 60 days to get it done. Sputum takes 8 weeks. So my concern is how to get the sputum test done. Do we need to wait for the panel doctor to send the information and then to go lab to get it done. And how to inform ircc that sputum will take 8 weeks.
will doctor provide us some kind of sheet where the steps will be written . Bcz we are still confused how to get the test done.

Hi visit your designated clinic as soon as you receive your medical furtherance. Second xray is done 60 days after your medical so that’s why it is scheduled on the 20th of August. I did my sputum and emailed the IRCC through the webform that i already done the test. The clinic won’t give you any sheet or forms so you have to update the IRCC.

Tuberculosis is hardly deadly, at least in a healthy person like you. It's more often than not asymptomatic and there is nothing really to worry about.

The really bad news is ghe fact that if indeed you have Tb, the treatment takes over 6 months. Yes, so your PR application will be delayed for roughly a year I'd say. And you may need a second course of treatment, so yes buckle up and fill yourself with patience.
