Hello all,

I applied for tourist visa for my sister. I am a PR here in canada. I ordered the gcms notes and it says:

Applicant is 23 years old. applicant is employed part time - letter provided (which is not true, she is working 1 full time and 1 part-time jobs)
proof of funds- applicant is bringing CAD $10,000 however unable to determine origin of funds- modest income
proof of travel limited Asian; Schengen visa issued 2015 however not used.
based on all the document I am not satisfied applicant will have incentive to depart canada.

Please help.

So she needs to strengthen her application.

  • Add all jobs she is working with salary
  • Strengthen ties to home - property, investments, loans
  • Attach or explain how she received the money. Did she save it?
  • Can’t change her lack of travel
How long was the proposed visit?

Thanks for the quick response. The proposed visit was for a month. I will work on strengthing the applications but I am concerned the visa officer will come up with a new reason and reject the application again.
Additionally, my sister and me along with our parents and extended family did have Schengen visa in 2015 but only my sister could not travel because of her board exams while all of us had a wonderful time in Europe for a month. I can probably find a copy of her exam dates and upload that as proof. Do you think that would help in changing the mind of the visa officer about the "lack of travel" issue?

So if she only has $10000 and the proposed visit was for a month that is not a lot of money factoring in airfare, 3 day hotel quarantine etc. Also she needs written authorization to travel.

The Schengen visa doesn’t help with travel issue as she didn’t travel and it was 6 years ago so she doesn’t have recent travel. They want to see travel to the US, Australia, UK, and New Zealand.

I understand. Thank you. I have another question and would appreciate it if you could help answer it. To work around my sister's financial stuff, could my hubby sponsor her visit? The reason I do not want to sponsor is that I am not employed at the moment. But my hubby is employed and makes over 100k a year.

You can provide a letter of invitation and say you will provide food and accommodations etc. The visa officer will decide as she still needs to show her own proof of funds. Also the officer questioned her $10k and where it came from.

The $10k is her savings as she is working 2 jobs. But we can't show the payroll as there is no way we can track the payroll of Nepal. Also, she didn't show her property in the application maybe that will help too?

Did you forward the $10k to your sibling?

no, it's mostly savings and some amounts were transferred by my dad.
Ah...that is why the officer stated that they couldn’t verify the origins of the funds. How much did he transfer and when? This could be an issue if the money was deposited just before the visa application was submitted.

Money was transferred around Jan 2020 but it wasn't a lot and we applied for a visa in March. Most of her money is from Salary and we can see in the statement that the salary is written in Nepali month (like Mangsir, Magh, etc) may be that's why the visa officer couldn't understand.

So money was transferred just before your application. You may want to explain that.

Ok understood. My sister has no plans to stay in Canada for an extended period of time and all her documents are genuine. Plus she also has a modeling career in my country. Do you think it would be advantageous if I get help from an immigration consultant or a lawyer? rather than doing it ourselves?

If you want to pay someone go ahead but they can’t change the application. When were you planning the visit...next year? She also needs written authorization to travel and show her visit is essential.
