Study permit application refused

Hi all, I really need some advice here.

My background is:
45+ HR manager, with 20+ exp
Degree in business admin, accompanying with 2 dependants
Applied college: Red River College
Applied diploma: Business admin diploma

The gcms notes said that after reviewing my educational and employment histories, home ties and establishment, they are not satisfied that the proposed study is reasonable nor it is a logical progression of studies as the course overlaps with my previous studies and experience.

If I change to another diploma program in different field (e.g. IT), would it address their concern? Or be it a post-degree diploma a better choice? Thanks for help.

They are definitely suspecting that you are a PR aspirant as opposed to a genuine student. This is likely due to your age, the fact that you're going with two dependents and the very long learning gap (more than 20 years since you last studied).

Changing your program will not only fail to convince them, but will also put you in a worse position and might affect future visa applications. Why? Because they will see it as a desperate attempt to just get into Canada.

What you can do, in my opinion, is write a very, and I mean very strong SOP if you wish to reapply.

what is your GPA? there are universities that would give you admission in masters based on your professional experience.

20 years experience in the field, HR manager and now applying for a diploma program in Business admin? Not surprised about refusal at all, going by IRCC trends. What could you possibly learn from this diploma? With your profile, you should be teaching the diploma courses!

My advice is for you to seek admission in a Masters program. Some universities have Professional Master's programs that is not focused on GPA but on professional experience (which you've got a lot of). You might only need to write GRE/GMAT.

Honestly, you can write the strongest SOP ever written in the history of SP applications, I doubt you will ever be able to convince the VO that this diploma is right progression for you.

2.97/4, your GPA is not bad at all. I would suggest going for masters program or PG with a subspeciality which is in high demand in your country.

How will a business diploma from RRCC help your career in your home country after 20 years in HR. Why do you need a Canadian diploma, spend thousands and bring your family with you. Those are the questions you need to answer.

Agree those are tricky questions and that's why I want to try other fields like IT or marketing. And build a stronger sop base on that.

It needs to be at least a post-graduate diploma - masters would be better. If you apply again just with a diploma, then you should expect you'll be refused again. If you want to apply with a post-graduate diploma, then I would suggest that only you apply and your family stay back home. If you want your family to come with you, then a masters is a much better plan.

If you're going to be switching fields, you're going to have to explain why very well in your SOP.

Right now is just looks like you're trying to find a way to immigrate to Canada and aren't a genuine student.

But IT and marketing will be looked at suspiciously too when you have 20 years in HR. A masters in HR or MBA in HR would make sense given your experience.

it really would be difficult honeslty. i myself have 17years in IT but i could show strong ties to my home country, natural progression and not taking my family along. Was able to get visa approval last week.

Sorry but in your case you would really have to pursue a Masters if you want to convince VO. Doing a diploma with your experience does not make any sense. Were you told to do so by your agent ?
