Hello everyone,

Sadly, after waiting for 5 months my sister got to know that her application type is submitted as Visitor Visa. It is very strange because the supporting documents included education related files as well. These documents are not at all related to Visitor Visa application.
She applied by her own and got no update at all on her application from past 5 months.

We are not sure what mistake she did because as per her she clearly remember selecting application type as Study Visa (TR from outside Canada).

These are the documents she submitted and showing in her GCKey account:

Application Form(s)
  • Application for Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) Made Outside of Canada (IMM5257) (required)

Supporting Documents
  • Recent Education Transcript (required)
  • Proof of Next Terms Enrolment (required)
  • Canadian Work or Study Permit (required)
  • Passport (required)
  • Proof of Means of Financial Support (required)
  • Digital photo (required)
  • Family Information (IMM5645) (required)
  • Client Information (required)
  • Schedule 1 - Application for a Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside Canada (IMM 5257) (required)

We are confused now because if the application type is Visitor Visa why would IRCC ask for documents such as Proof of Next Terms Enrolment and Canadian Work or Study Permit.
The actual Visitor Visa document list is different. She got the her Canadian Visitor Visa last year and I did compare both document lists.
The entire application does not make any sense at all. It looks an application for Study Permit extension but then why type is Visitor Visa and Schedule 1 for Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside Canada is Required.

Please advice what should we do.
Her University suggested her to continue her studies online and apply with new application.

Thanks in Advance!

I think you can explain this mistake to IRCC and ask their permission to amend the application. However, the fee for visitor visa is 100 CAD but for study permit it is 150. Give a try by messaging to them, seek their help.

It seems she has selected that she is a a student already and trying to get new TRV.
I don't understand how she submitted the form in the first place if she doesn't have transcripts, Canadian work/study permit etc and they are required, what did she upload there?
The only way to cancel anything is via webform, so send request to cancel, if you are lucky and they havent touched the application there might be a refund, make new application, I think these two applications might be too different to make an amendment.

I think she did upload the acceptance letter from University. The confusion is if this application is submitted as existing student in Canada, then how come application type is Visitor Visa.

Yea we are planning to submit a new application ASAP.

Existing students in Canada can apply
for TRV, that might be what it is.

10 days ago, my sister's application which was submitted as wrong application type finally got Cancelled. We did submit a new study permit application a month before the cancellation of earlier application.
No you can't cancel it by yourself. You have to submit the request via Webform to withdraw the application.

Did your previous application get withdrawn?
I have also submitted a new application and applied for the withdrawal of a previous study application.
