After a person makes the refugee claim, his/her passport would be held by the Canadian government, in return, they would be granted a refugee claimant ID, which is a photocopy of their passport with an official stamp on it, right? My question is ,would that ID be used for domestic air travel?

You can travel with refugee claimant paper with your photo on it. Not with the copy of your passport

Is the document issued same with the CBSA (Port of entry claim) and the IRCC (inland claim)?

Not sure if it is the same document but the one you should use looks like this (your photo will be attached to it) - See photo

I never used this document personally to travel within Canada so I can't confirm if it is accepted within the country.

Why don't you apply for a province photo ID or driver's licence? Both of these IDs are accepted for domestic flights and anywhere you need to proof your identity, plus you don't risk losing your RDCD while traveling

Thanks for your reply. This is so helpful. May I ask when did you get this paper? Did you get it at the border office when you make the claim upon arrival from overseas, or the IRCC office in Canada?

Whatever you Photo ID can do for is the same this that this Document can do for you. This is federal government ID you can use it to enter any office where picture ID is accepted. I used my to fly from Quebec to Alberta.

Dear friend,

Are you referring to the document that Kaisa_18 attached as above?

May I ask when did you get this paper? Did you get it at the border office when you make the claim upon arrival from overseas, or the IRCC office in Canada?
