Hello Everybody,

I will be shortly traveling on LMIA (GTS) approved Closed work Permit. My work location would be Ottawa,ON. For sometime i need to work On and Off from remote and office location due to current COVID situation.

I was thinking to rent an apartment in Windsor OR London.

My Question is: Am I allowed to reside anywhere in the same province as my work location? Is there any complication when I go for EE profile creation or PR process?

Thank you in advance for all your responses.

Hello Everybody,

I was thinking to rent an apartment in Windsor OR London, mainly to reduce my cost of living.

If you were able to work remotely and live in Windsor or London there would be no real reason for you to move to Canada.

Hello Canuck78, The work is remote due to this COVID situation and its On and Off between remote and office. The moment office declared open i need to back to office all the time.

but when you go back to the office you could hardly commute to Ottawa from Windsor or London . Windsor would be at least a 6-7 hour drive

If the work was currently only remote there would be no reason to be in Canada. Not sure how you would be able to justify coming to Canada and renting an apartment in London or Windsor when you are coming to join a job in Ottawa.

I agree but he was saying he would need to go to the office when told to and Windsor/London would not be commutable.

The whole plan doesn't make sense. Would add that rentals are usually for 1 year. It seems as though this family wants to live in London or Windsor but the job is in Ottawa. If the job is 100% remote there is no need to be in Canada versus moving to London or Windsor temporarily.

Sorry for the long delay on the response. May be i wasn't clear with my question with complete details.

I was planning to rent for few months at london/windsor where i know few friends and wanted to stay next to them as i do not wanted to be complete stranger in new country.
From your response looks like, 1 year rentals are must and can not get monthly rental or half yearly rental. sorry, I was not aware about that. I was just thinking to get familiarize my self in new country to being close to someone i knew and can reach out for any initial help. And by doing so wanted to make sure I am not violating any legal rules in the country.

Anyways the approvals are taking longer than i thought in the current situation and decided to concentrate on the logistics only after the approval.

Thank you so much for your responses and guidance. Its really helpful to a newbie like me.

Thanks.
