I am wondering what are benefits of having PR card only ?

What do you mean by having PR card only?
If you are a PR, you need PR card to travel back to Canada. (except applying for PRTD when you are away and do not have a valid PR card)

PRTD is an exceptional means how to get back to Canada. If for example you PR card will expire while outside in Canada and you could not manage to get a new one in time. Or when your PR card is stolen, lost or damaged / destroyed. PRTD is not a normal alternative option and is not meant to be used on regular basis. So no you need a PR card when you are PR (for travelling and other purposes).
