Hi, congrats on the fast approval of your open work permit. May I know what documents you have submitted aside from the list you were given? Did you still submit your previous PGWP and Study permit?

I applied for mine on the same day and also received my approval for 18 months today. This is the quickest processing time among my experiences with IRCC.
I guess IRCC either prioritized this category or intended to showcase the results of this new policy.

Who can apply
To be eligible for this open work permit, you must meet the following 5 requirements:
  1. Your post-graduation work permit (PGWP)
    1. expired on or after January 30, 2020, or
    2. will expire within 4 months from the date you apply for this open work permit.
  2. You were in Canada as of January 27, 2021, when the public policy took effect, and have stayed in Canada since then.
  3. You either
    1. have a temporary resident status (this could be from having a valid PGWP, visitor record, or another permit that allows you to stay in Canada), or
    2. lost your temporary resident status, but you’ve already applied to restore it, or
    3. lost your temporary resident status, but you’ll apply to restore it at the same time as applying for this open work permit
  4. You include in your application that you’re applying for an open work permit under this public policy.
  5. You have a valid passport.
    1. The work permit will be issued for up to 18 months from the date of approval or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. For example, if your passport is valid for 6 months, then you will be issued an open work permit for 6 months.
    2. To maximize the duration of the open work permit, make sure your passport is valid for at least 18 months from the date of approval.

My question: Do I need to have a temporary resident status during the processing period of my application? (I don't think so. What do you think?)
This is because my current PGWP will expire very soon. After the submission of this new OWP application, I will have the implied status after my PGWP expires.
Am I over-analyzing requirement #3 now?

Hi, anyone here who was issued with 8-months of PGWP and meets all the requirements? How is the processing of your application for the extension of the open work permit?

I was issued with 8-months PGWP and it expired last July 2020. I meet all the requirements listed in the new public policy. I am just wondering if you have any trouble getting approval for the extension of the PGWP under the new public policy. I feel lucky and at the same time anxious I might get disapproved because I only held an 8-month PGWP.

What documents did you submit? Did you still submit your previous PGWP and Study permit?

Please let me know guys your insights. Thank you.

The length of your PGWP should not matter. IRCC did not specify the minimum length of PGWP, so don't worry about the length.
This new policy is meant to keep you remain in Canada and have a change of employment. IRCC needs you to hit their immigration target of 400K for 2021 and beyond.

Documents submitted:
Just wondering what kind of documents you submitted? 'cause it seems we are in similar situations.
I submitted the IMM form, a photo, my passport+ current pgwp and a letter of explanation. (I could include more supporting docs, like a job offer, but I did not since it was not required to include in the application.)
IMM + Passport + digital Photo + Current Wp + previous study permit + Letter of Explanation + currently Im working a Job letter (not required this document I just added for reference).

Hi I have close work permit right now w/ LMIA from my employer. I am a holder of PGWP expired last year December. Am I still eligible to apply for the PGWP extension under the new public policy (18months open work permit)? Any idea or have same situation here? Thank you.
Yes, you are eligible. A friend of mine holds a closed wp and he will apply for an owp under this new policy.

Thanks.

I submitted only the required documents inlcuding the letter. They already have our previous PGWP and Study permits so we don’t need to upload them.

Thank you so much for your insights @RoTaBl . It really means a lot.

Regarding documents. We are required to write all our employment history in the form, do we need to provide proof such as an employment reference, payslips and etc. letter in this application, or it not necessary?

Thanks.

Thank you so much @Deepanshu96 . What about employment history, do we still need to submit proof of experience from our previous employers? or it is not necessary to provide for this application?

No, no need for that. You aren’t required to do so.

Hi All,

I can see below status on my profile for work permit. I applied on 31st Jan. What does that mean ? And how long will it take to provide decision ?
  • We are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements.
