40 hours unpaid Internship possible?

Hello members,
Seems like I am in need of your expertise here. In the case that I get an internship which is 40 hrs long during a non scheduled break semester, can I do it if I decide to convert it from a paid to an unpaid internship? Or maybe get paid for 20hrs but work 40hrs (This might be a bit more complicated)

Unpaid internships are still considered work and are subject to the same rules about working.

Hmm... what if I do it as 'volunteer' work and not clock in any hours at all. I mean technically I'm not working right since I'm not getting paid and its not for credit either?

It would still be considered work if another person could be paid to do the same work.
