Canadian government is trying to limit travel. They have clearly mentioned on their website "Its not the time to travel".
Hotel quarantine is nothing but to discourage everyone from travelling in and out of Canada.
That is why they have also allowed PGWP to online studies and suggested students to either postpone or cancel their planned trip.

I don't understand why everyone don't look into the full picture before spreading 1 specific information. We have to support Canadian Gov. either by not travelling or by following restrictions. Not everyone is doing 14 day quarantine and instead start roaming outside before end of 14 days.
I did 14 day quarantine twice and no official came to visit to check my status. They just called twice over weekends to confirm.

So we should also support whosoever is in Gov. and medical professionals by at least following the instructions. I know students will find hard to pay for Hotel but then don't travel. We can't have everything by our own way.

Go on canada fanboy but one should justify each and everything. A lot of students have secured reasearch based programs solely on the basis of their talent. How do you expect them to pay this amount ?

This is a ridiculous comment. No one sues the federal government successfully. It's just noise that people make to get press and express discontent.

The government is not trying to milk money out of students. They are trying to stop variants from spreading which would ultimately impact the start of term in September and further re-opening measures. Yeah, it sucks but at least you can still come if you want to.

If you want to follow a ideal model then you should research more about dubai and how they controlled covid 19 by implementing same rules like testing at airports and everything but they never forced anyone to opt for their plans (meal, taxi and security) governments can recommend us things but they cannot sell packages like travel agents.

There is also a number on the government website where you can give a tip if you see somebody is violating the quarantine rules

Well there is a thing called transparency and this is where everything falls apart. A hotel which generally costs 200 CAD (Including breakfast and other amenities) will now cost 600 CAD. How the heck you can justify this price. I don't blindly support anyone without looking at the facts.

2 x Covid-19 PCR tests
travel from airport to hotel
3 x meals x 3 days
3 x hotel night stay
security
administrative costs
unlimited wifi
laundry
thorough cleaning after 3 days, more than your average stay.

I dunno, like $200 a night for an airport hotel is pretty standard so that's $600 right there plus $50 a day on hotel food so now we are at $750 plus tests which in Canada run $150 each so now we are over $1000 and then you have costs in 24 hour security, maybe even enhanced security and cleaning and whatever the transportation is. To me $1300-$1600 probably is the correct rate. We will see, I imagine it won't be $2000 but slightly under.

Gov. is different and people residing in these countries are different as well. You rather being of help just trying to be rude and arguing uselessly. Shall I call you "Dubai Fan Boy" ? Go to Dubai then if you liked their model.
I simply said that people here are not following the instructions and this is NOT DUBAI. You must be aware that how strict that country can get. If Canadian gov. starts behaving like Dubai, immigrants like us won't even get a chance to settle down in this country permanently and that too so easily as compared other 1st world countries. So stop whining. It is neither helping you nor others.

Everybody got their own personal reasons for travel and it is of course upsetting for many students to pay serious amount of money. No need to act like a meathead nationalist and try persuading people how we should support every decision of Canadian government or any other government in that case.

Regardless of that, how the h.ll should we book an approved quarantine hotel? I know they haven't released hotels yet, bu there is also no direction.
I checked booking.com, they still show regular prices. anyone got any idea?

In my case it is required to attend face to face classes. My program has a big percentage hands-on component. We, interantional students, are contributing to the Canadian economy.

As @karatekamil said, this discussion has no ending. We can keep arguing and it will not help anyone. We all think of ourselves first and that is exactly Canadian Gov. is doing to make sure Canadian citizens are safe. So please have some faith and patience.
Here in Toronto, we are under lockdown and doing our part to control the pandemic.

I think you don't understand the meaning of a research program. Other than that I'm just amazed when indians like you don't support Indians who have literally wasted 7-8 months while waiting for their visa and now they're being forced to pay this absurd amount. I hope you will understand the pain of the students who mortgaged their houses and lands just to study outside India (Specifically Canada). All you're doing is blatantly supporting government which is actually a good thing but please dont forget you were in the same situation few years ago.
