I discovered this thread just today, here is my update:

This morning I received the following request as a pdf letter in MyCIC account/IRCC account:
"We have begun processing your application for permanent residence, and in order to make a decision we require the following information/documents:
<my son (less than 10 yrs old, US citizen)> Passport/Travel Document: The passport that you have provided is expiring soon or is already expired. We require a passport with a validity of greater than six (6) months in order to assess your application. Please renew your passport, and provide a scanned copy of your new passport.
Please note that the requested information/documents must be received within 30 days from the date of this correspondence. Please upload these documents to your MyCIC account. If we do not receive the information/documents within 30 days, your application will be assessed based on the information we have on file, meaning your application could be refused as incomplete.
"

This link provides answers for someone like me who is unable to renew their kid's (US) passport:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/immigration-applicants.html

Summary:
If you’re missing documents due to COVID-19 (such as police certificates, biometrics, passports and medical exams)
  • we won’t close or refuse any applications in progress
  • we’ll automatically give you an extra 90 days to send us the documents from the deadline in the request letter
    • this applies even if the letter says you only have 30 or 90 days
  • we’ll keep extending the deadline for another 90 days until you can get the documents
  • you don’t have to contact us to get this extension

Oh waow. Where did you get it renewed, inside US? Did you have to take an appointment at the embassy?

Thank you very much!
Could you please tell where to check and whom?
They mean expert participants in this forum like LegalFalcon who has already answered your question. Another one I can think of is Andy108. They are volunteering their time for sharing knowledge so its not guaranteed that you will get a response. Another route is hiring an immigration lawyer.

I can see myself in this scenario. What if both profiles get ITA, can we apply 2 eAPRs (one with me as PA and another with my spouse as PA)? I understand it is not a good practice to load the system with 2 applications but in my case one of the application has a weakness in it (job offer letter not using the exact words) so I am not sure it will pass eligibility. The other one has a different weakness.
When the applications enter the IRCC system, will they detect it and notify us about the duplicates or simply pause/reject both?!
Thanks
If you get ITA for both profiles, you cna file two applications, but eventually you will gave to withdraw one and also pay money for both.

Immigration applications are processed on the law, and not on discretionary basis. Either you meet the criteria or not.

The passport was expiring in which month? I too have a similar situation so I am a bit concerned about that. Thanks

Early April. Let me know what you did? Did IRCC ask for your kid's renewed passport? Is it US passport?

I think you can call right:? I see some one from Sep 17th got additional document request in other thread. So they are working on Sep 17th applications
I called the agent today and my status is still same. AOR 9th September. Background check - criminality under process and security not started. My background check is making things worse. I don't know what they guys are checking from the last two months.
