Canadian work history in a foreign place

Hi guys, I had a question related to my working history.

After I received my diploma in June 2019 and work permit, I was travelling in China while I later received a Canadian job offer in October. I started my job by distance working and spending two months in China, then I went back to Canada in December and started working in the office. During those two months of distance working, I received payslips and have paid taxes to Canada. However, the first two months was not entirely under my NOC code because of distance working.

I wonder how do I deal with this situation. Should I mention those two months? Or can I just not mention it (without those 2 months I still got more than 1 year of eligible working history)

If I have to mention it, do I have to provide an explanation letter? If so, where should I upload the letter?

Thanks ahead.

What you put on your PR profile will entirely depend on what dates will your reference letter mention. So follow that.

do you have an approved work permit before you even started working in China?

thinking out loud here. The above link says that you have to perform duties of your NOC to qualify as Canadian work experience. You mentioned above that you started doing this when you’re in Canada. So I guess, put that as your start date? Plus that’ll cover 1 year of work experience, so this one’s sorted.

My next concern is on your personal history. Since you didn’t claim that 2 months as Canadian work experience, this will have to show up in your personal history, it will ask for activity , company name and location... wondering how will you present this...?

Yeah... guess I have to provide an explanation letter and explain everything.

What if I claim that 2 months as Canadian working experience under NOC? I was in a qualifying period in that two months with fewer tasks, but it can be still counted as the same NOC and my boss is willing to help me write a more satisfactory reference letter. I just don't know that whether I have to be geographically in Canada while working to qualify for a NOC job. I received payslips and have paid taxes tho. It's just that I was not physically in Canada and since it was at the start of the job, I don't know if I can claim it as business travel.

Quoting from the link above: “principal applicants are requested to provide documentary evidence of their work experience in Canada through a combination of: a copy of their most recent work permit (unless they are work-permit exempt), copies of their most recent T4 tax information slips and Notice of Assessment (NOA) issued by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) or a sufficient combination of other supporting documentation, and employer letters of reference for all periods of qualifying work experience claimed in the application.”

so I guess if you’d be able to provide these documents to support your work experience, it should be okay? I mean you’re still employed by a Canadian based employer in those two months. Then in travel history, mention the trip as business?
