Hi,

I have a question regarding tourist visa and it's eligibility.

I recently got married and my spouse is a PR holder. We are contemplating dependant PR application, however due to the covid scenario the timelines are not favourable.

As per the eligibility criteria will I, the spouse of PR holder be eligible to apply for temporary residence permit / tourist visa? And any idea on the processing time required for the same?

Appreciate your response.

Yes you are eligible, but as per the comments and experiences posted in this forum, the chances of approval is around 50%. It depends on how much you are able to prove your ties back to your home country and satisfy the officer about your return on visa expiry.
Current timelines are around 6 months. You can check the processing time for your specific conditions here -

Thanks.
Assuming the visitor visa is approved, meanwhile PR application can be submitted as well? I have heard that only one visa application can be processed at a time. Not sure if it's true.

Yes they are not related. You can submit a PR application while a visitor visa is under process/approved. That's called "dual intent".

By PR application, did you mean your own separate Express Entry or sponsorship application by spouse?

Yes that's possible. What you need to decide is whether you want to apply as outland or inland. If you get a TRV approved, you can go to Canada and apply inland along with an open work permit. However that would mean you have to wait for the TRV to get approved before you can initiate your sponsorship application (which will take ~1.5yrs given the current timelines, processing of the sponsorship application that is). Alternatively, you may apply for outland sponsorship and TRV right away. The chances of getting your TRV approved is the same in both the cases.
