Hi All,

I am in the process of a spouse sponsorship application and need help with my question. I am a Canadian PR & I have NOT sponsored my ex-spouse. I was married to my ex-spouse in 2015 and from Jan 2019 we started living separately. Our divorce in Canada got finalized in Jan 2020. During my separation period(Apr 2019-Dec 2019), I started dating my current spouse and we met multiple times, traveled places together. I remarried in Nov 2020. My question is: Can I show photos from Apr 2019- Dec 2019 as proof of relationship or will it cause suspicion of a non-genuine relationship?

It should be fine. In the sponsorship forms, for those who were previously married, there's is question about the date of separation and another one about the date of divorce, which would be two different dates in your case (and in most cases as you can't get a divorce in Canada unless you've been living separate and apart from your spouse for at least a year). During legal separation, there's nothing that says that you can't date.

Thank you for responding. Just to be double sure:
My ex-spouse and I started living separately in Jan'19. We did not file anything separately for 'Separation'. I filed my non-contested divorce in July & it was served to my ex-spouse. However, I had to wait till we finished 1 year of separation, I visited my lawyer, did additional documentation which then put up the case in the civil court. Then I received my divorce order & certificate in Jan'2020. I hope that's during this period I am okay to date!

I still believe it's fine, I'm not an immigration lawyer though.
