Hi @legalfalcon

I hold a valid COPR issued in Nov 2020, and I am ready to travel. Can you please guide me if:
1. I can travel to Canada amid travel restrictions?
2. Should I apply for Authorization letter under the "extended family clause"? I have my real brother an brother in law settled in Toronto.
3. Should I raise my travel request as "essential" with reason of joining my Brother?

Thank you in advance for your help.

1. Yes, only if your meet one of the exemptions.

2. YEs, if you get an AL, you will be exempt from the restrictions and many applicants have done it.

3. You do not fall under essential category, however, you can request for a AL under the extended family reunification.

Hi @legalfalcon I just received a response from IRCC, and they have refused to issue me a travel Authorization letter.
I had mailed them and explained to them that I have COPR issued to me, attached imm0006 form, and gave reason as family reunification.

But they refused me saying that I do not have a valid Canadian travel document (electronic travel authorization [eTA] or visitor visa), which you need for air travel and entry to Canada.

I don't understand, I have COPR... I can travel if they issued me the letter.
Also, what is eTA???? Should I apply for that tooo???

Thanks for everything.

eTA is Electronic Travel Authorization that is required by citizens of some countries who have temporary visas to inform IRCC of their arrival.

It seem like your request was denied without evaluating your circumstances. You can file a new request and ask them to reconsider and provide all the documentation, including a copy of your PR Visa and cOPR.

@legalfalcon I finally got a response from IRCC and they approved my request for Travel authorization.

But, I had requested for exemption for my spouse and my son too (as they too have COPR and are my dependents - I am the Principal applicant).

Is there travel also authorized under this email? Should I seek approval for their entry too???

Please help!!!!

Only the immediate relative or extended family member will be given travel exemption. You have to obtain the exemption for each individual who wants to travel .

You have to understand the intent of the policy. The policy to exempt immediate and extended family members was to reunite family who have not see each other for a long time due to the travel restrictions.

It is not a means to get into Canada by circumventing the policy and its intent, just because you have a COPR.

You can request for travel authorisation, but they are given on a case by case basis and all individuals require one to travel.

@legalfalcon I understand this... but can I travel alone??? Since I am the primary applicant, bot my dependents need to travel with me, the first time we enter.

Can I as primary applicant enter Canada alone?
Will my spouse and son be able to enter later, once the travel restriction is lifted?

Please advice

If you have the AL and you are the PA, you can travel. However, make sure you are aware of the mandatory quarantine and COVId test requirements.

Even I am in the same situation.. valid COPR n AL approved for myself alone. But my kids are too young to leave them alone. What is the way to proceed further?

Rule is that dependents can travel either with PA or after PA, for the landing purpose. So, you can travel first and your spouse and son and travel later.

In that way they will be automatically exempted since you are immediate family and does not require AL to travel( as of todays rules)
