I have a similar question. I started my course in 2015 and graduated in 2018. I had 4 academic semesters, a 8 month co-op and two scheduled breaks. Does my program count as a 2 year or 3 year diploma? please help

Everything scheduled counts, semesters, breaks, co-op.

Hello! Can anyone please help me out with it? I'm really stressed about it and I don't have time.

I have been accepted into this one college (Public College)program in Canada which has 4 semesters and 2 co-op/work terms in a period of 2 years.
I will like to know if I fall on Canada's 3 years of Work visa eligibility.
On the Canada's Government website it says that 2 years or more than 2 years required to get 3 years of work visa but my program also has co-op/work terms in 2 years. Are the co-op hours going to be counted? Will I get 3 years of PGWP?

REPLY URGENT !

How many academic years did it say on your offer letter. Co-op is academic semester so it is as if you are studying. Be sure to check if the institution is eligible for PGWP and you have enough credits

Institution is eligible for PGWP, I checked that.
This is how it's going to work:
  • Sem 1: Winter 2021
  • Sem 2: Summer 2021
  • Sem 3: Fall 2021
  • Sem 4: Winter 2022
  • Work Term 1: Summer 2022
  • Work Term 2: Fall 2022
And on the College Website:

Delivery: Full-time
Work Integrated Learning: 2 Co-op Work Terms
Length: 4 Semesters, plus 2 work terms
Duration: 2 Years

I hope now you can tell? And please explain the credits thing, what is it and how to check?
Thank you,

Hi,

I have a similar question,

I'm looking to apply to a program that is offering a 1.5 year option that includes 12 months of study and 6 months of co op. The college is in the list of DLIs.

This is how the program is going to look like,
Term 1 (Summer 21): 2 months
Term 2 (Fall 21): 3 months
Term 3 (Winter 22): 4 months
Term 4 (Summer 22): co op - 6 months
Term 5 (Fall 22): 3 months

I read in multiple forums that 18 months of study will be considered as 2 years and be given a 3 year PGWP.

But would the co op be considered as a part of the study program?

Urgent response would be highly appreciated

Thanks,

Co-op is considered as part of your education. So the terms you count as co-op counts towards the length of your study

You should be eligible for the 2 years of studies = 3 years of pgwp

Hi,

Thank you for your response.
So could clarify to me if that means i will be eligible for the 3 year PGWP.

Thanks,
Yes, 18 months of study is 2 academic years. You should be eligible for 3 yrs of pgwp.

Carefully said, some programs have optional coop and if you dont find a work placement, it will not be counted in
