study permit delays

Dear all, my daughter is an Irish national living in nigeria, she applied(online) for study permit from nigeria since August 2020. She has received a letter in september 12th advicing her that because of Covid-19 her application will be delayed but she may wish to commence online lesson with her DLI. on 25th NOv, she received another letter confirming the validity of her biometric informations. However, since then we have not received any further communications.

i got worried because my second daughter who is using a nigerian passport for the same study permit has gotten her visa stamped on her nigerian passport and has also been issued her study permit as well. The two applications were requested at thesame time and all communications on both has been thesame from canadian embassy till after the letter of confirmation of the validity of their biometrics.

kindly educate me the possible reason for this delays.

The main reason is that your daughter is an Irish national & didn’t apply from there. She needs to show strong ties to Ireland for approval. Your other daughter has Nigerian passport & applied from her home country.

thanks Naturgri, i really appreciate your response. Though they have not requested for any further documents. is it possible they have written to the Irish embassy and are waiting for response. could this possible be the reason for the delays

They don’t contact an embassy but when you live in a country where you weren’t born then processing can be longer. They will look at her ties to Ireland and not Nigeria. Does she own anything in Ireland? What are here career prospects there etc.

she was only born in ireland. she has not lived there or own any property their. She is still a minor. what do you advice we do

You will have to wait for a decision as you will not be asked for more documents. Hopefully it will be a positive outcome.

Hello, the situation is similar to what my daughter experienced. She's a minor too, application done from Nigeria, she received her approval in principle to start online classes 6th of August and BVL on 25th of November too and then nothing, usually you're supposed to get a final decision (approval or refusal) within 24hours of receiving the BVL. What I did was send a webform once every week and also emails to IRCC offices (China, UAE, Nairobi, Nigeria, London) and we got the passport request 15th of December, I only had to send 2 separate times. Now, I'm not sure if this is what did it but there's no harm in trying it. I doubt if it has anything to do with her Irish citizenship though, good luck!
