Sometimes it gets confusing about what exactly is the difference between TRP and TRV. So today we will try to remove the doubts regarding this.
TRV stands for temporary resident visa and TRP stands for temporary resident permit. Temporary resident visa is issued to the person if he is allowed to come into Canada as a tourist or a student or as a worker, so whenever somebody wishes to work, study or visit Canada they have to get a TRV issued. In common man’s terms, we also know TRV as a visitor visa so all the three categories they have to get a visitor visa to enter Canada and then later depending upon the requirement, at the point of entry they’re issued different permits. So, a person who is coming to Canada as a tourist will come permit and then they have to go back within the specified period of time a person who is coming to work or study in Canada they will come on a visitor permit and then in Canada they are issued work permit or study permit.
In second category, think what happens to people who are not eligible to enter Canada, it can be because of the security reason or non fulfillment of other guidelines as per immigration authorities. They are issued a temporary resident permit not a temporary resident visa. A temporary resident permit allows people to come to Canada for a specified period of time as mentioned on the permit. A TRP can be a single entry or multiple entry. On a single entry TRP, once a person leaves Canada they cannot re-enter Canada , whereas on a multiple entry TRP they can re enter. A multiple entry TRP’s are valid mostly for 1-3 years.A single entry visa is for shorter periods of time, for example a week. To illustrate, consider a person who is not admissible to Canada but he wants to come to Canada for a company meeting or some kind of visit for one week so they will be issued a TRP for one week and within one week he has to go back and if the same person was eligible to enter Canada then he could have come on a temporary resident visa that we call as a visitor visa and he could’ve spent 6 Months in Canada.
To, sum it up TRV is for people who are allowed to enter Canada and TRP is for people who are not eligible to enter Canada.
